Von der Queen bis Kate Moss – Die Fotografien des Rocksängers Bryan Adams
Die meisten von Euch werden Bryan Adams nur als Rocksänger kennen. Songs wie „Everything I Do for You“ von 1991 blieb 4 Monate auf dem 1. Platz der Single Charts in Großbritannien und wurde als Titelmelodie im Film „Robin Hood -König der Diebe“ mit Kevin Kostner in der Hauptrolle verwendet. 155 Millionen Aufrufe auf Youtube. Oder der andere Schmusesong „Please Forgive Me“ von 1993 wurde ein Welthit und gemeinsam mit Rod Stewart und Sting erschien 1994 „All for Love“, welcher für den Film Film „Die Drei Musketiere“ (1993, Mit Charlie Sheen und Kiefer Sutherland) verwendet wurde.

Bryan Adams ist 1959 in Ontario, Kanada, geboren und wuchs in vielen verschiedenen Ländern auf, da sein Vater Diplomat war. Erst ab 1975, nach der Trennung der Eltern, ließ sich die Mutter mit ihm und seinem kleineren Bruder in Vancouver nieder und Bryan Adams konnte erste feste soziale Bindungen schließen. Sie führten sogleich zur Gründung einer kleinen Rockband. Ab dem 15. Lebensjahr trat er mit verschiedenen Rockgruppen in unterschiedlicher Besetzungen auf. Zusammen mit seinem Kumpel Jack Vallance schrieb er auch erfolgreich Songs für andere Bands, wie zum Beispiel für Kiss oder Bonnie Taylor.

In den 80er Jahren ging er als Vorgruppe mit den Kinks oder Foreigner auf Tournee, 1985 begleitete er Tina Turner auf ihrer Tournee. Seine Single „Summer of 1969“ war sein erster großer Erfolg, viele weitere sollten folgen. Auch seine Zusammenarbeit mit anderen berühmten Kollegen brachte viel Aufmerksamkeit. So stand er nicht nur zusammen mit Sting und Rod Stewart auf der Bühne, sondern auch mit Barbara Streisand, Céline Dion und Nelly Fortado. Für seine Alben holte er sich Topstars wie Ed Sheeran oder Jennifer Lopez ins Studio.
Seit den 90er Jahren begann Bryan Adams seine Künstlerkollegen zu fotografieren. Zunächst nur als Schnappschüsse hinter der Bühne, wurden die Fotos immer professioneller. In den 2000er Jahren hatte sich Bryan Adams bereits eine ausgefeilte Technik beigebracht, gerade in der Schwarz-Weiß Fotografie. Das führte dazu, dass er bald auch in diesem Bereich Aufträge bekam und er sogar Cover Photos für CD’s realisieren durfte.
2008 kam dann ein Anruf aus dem Buckingham Palast: Er durfte die Queen fotografieren!
Das Shooting wurde ausgesprochen fröhlich, denn so lustig hatte man die englische Königin noch nie auf einem Bild gesehen (seht dazu auch unsere Bilderserie).
So kamen dann bald die ersten Ausstellungen, wie im NRW Forum 2014, in der Kunsthalle Mainz oder im Somerset House in London.
Und nun auch in der Galerie Camera Work in Berlin.
Aber Ihr müsst Euch sputen, denn die Ausstellung ist nur noch bis morgen, Samstag, den 23. Februar 2019, bis 18.00 Uhr zu sehen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich.

From the Queen to Kate Moss – The photographs of rock singer Bryan Adams
Most of you will only know Bryan Adams as a rock singer. Songs like „Everything I Do for You“ from 1991 stayed for 4 months on the 1st place of the single charts in Great Britain and was used as a theme tune in the movie „Robin Hood King of Thieves“ starring Kevin Kostner. 155 million views on Youtube. Or the other cuddly song „Please Forgive Me“ from 1993 became a world hit and together with Rod Stewart and Sting appeared 1994 „All for Love“, which was used for the movie „The Three Musketeers“ (1993, with Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland).
Born in 1959 in Ontario, Canada, Bryan Adams grew up in many different countries because his father was a diplomat. It was only in 1975, after the separation of the parents, that the mother settled down with him and his younger brother in Vancouver. Then young Bryan could close solid social bonds, which led immediately to the founding of a small rock band. From the age of 15, he appeared with different rock groups in different cast. Together with his buddy Jack Vallance, he also successfully wrote songs for other bands, such as Kiss or Bonnie Taylor. In the 80s he went as a supporting act with the Kinks or Foreigner on tour, in 1985 he accompanied Tina Turner on her tour. His single „Summer of 1969“ was his first great success, many more should follow. His collaboration with other famous colleagues also brought a lot of attention. So he was not only on stage with Sting and Rod Stewart, but also with Barbara Streisand, Céline Dion and Nelly Fortado. For his albums, he even got top stars like Ed Sheeran or Jennifer Lopez in his studio.
In addition to his music career Adams began to photograph since the 90s his artist colleagues. At first only as snapshots behind the stage, the photo sessions later became more and more professional. In the 2000s, Bryan Adams had already learned a sophisticated technique, especially in black and white photography. This meant that he soon got orders to produce cover photos for CD’s.
In 2008, a call came from the Buckingham Palace: He was allowed to take pictures of the Queen!
The shoot was then in a very happy mood, because you‘ ve never seen before the English queen in a picture which such a big smile (see also our picture series).
So soon the first exhibitions came, as in the NRW Forum 2014, in the Kunsthalle Mainz or in the Somerset House in London.
And now also in the gallery Camera Work in Berlin. But you have to hurry, because the exhibition can only be seen until tomorrow, Saturday, the 23rd of February 2019, until 6 pm. It’s worth a visit.
