Corona virus – who stays open? Who has to close?
By Holger Jacobs
03/17/2020
After Angela Merkel’s dramatic speech last night on the situation of the corona epidemic in Germany, all cultural institutions across Germany will be closed as of today.
As of Friday morning, March 13, the number of people infected with the coronavirus in Germany was 1,600 and three dead. As of this morning, Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, there are already 7200 infected and 17 dead. That is a fourfold increase in just 4 days.

Chancellor Angela Merkel announced at a press conference yesterday evening at 6:00 p.m. the hardest measures against the spread of the corona virus in Germany (On March 18 there was another speech by Angela Merkel on German television with an urgent appeal for strict compliance with these measures).
These are the most far-reaching measures for an entire country since World War II!

Who has to close?
All shops, bars, pubs, discotheques, clubs, theaters, opera and concert halls, museums, cinemas and leisure and animal parks, as well as all schools, universities and kindergardens.
All theaters and operas as well as other cultural events, concerts, cinemas and museums. Be private or handsome.
Sports and leisure clubs, sports fields and swimming pools, prostitution centers, brothels, sauna and fitness clubs also have to shut down.
Even playgrounds may no longer be used.
In addition, any form of gathering is prohibited, such as in sports and leisure clubs, as well as in churches, mosques and synagogues and other religious communities. Praying individually in places of worship is permitted, however.
In addition, Germans should refrain from any travel at home or abroad.
The only thing that has not yet been imposed on us is the complete curfew. This has been valid in Italy, Spain and France since yesterday. It could also come in Germany.

Stay open:
Grocery stores, pharmacies, drug stores, beverage stores, hairdressers, weekly markets, pet stores, delivery services, laundromats and dry cleaners, newspaper sales, banks, savings banks and post offices, petrol stations and hardware stores.
Restaurants are allowed to open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. when their tables are 1.50 meters apart.

Why this panic?
This still largely unknown virus is far more dangerous than any flu virus.
Contagion, spread and death rate are much higher.
The „normal“ flu virus mortality is between 0.1 and 0.5%.
According to the Robert Koch Institute, around 500 million people worldwide contract the flu each year, and around 300,000 die of it. That is 0.06%.
The likelihood of dying from flu is around 0.1 to 0.2 percent in Germany, says RKI President Lothar Wieler.
The coronavirus death rate is 10 times higher.

Now is the time for the digital distribution of art content.
The ART BASEL HONGKONG was canceled as a real art fair, but from March 19, 2020 (for VIPs as of March 18) there will be a virtual tour of all 230 participating galleries and their artists.
Many museums now offer virtual tours of their exhibitions.
Many opera and concert halls around the world now offer their productions via video stream.
I will give you the exact Internet program of the Berlin opera houses in a separate report.

Stay healthy!
