„THE GENTLEMEN“ – Drama, Komödie – USA – 2019
Regie: Guy Ritchie
Drehbuch: Guy Richtie
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Coloin Farrell, Michelle Dockery, Charliw Hunnam, Henry Golding
Filmverleih: Leonine (Universum Film)

Teilweise ziemlich brutal.

Weiterhin laufen an:

„THE GENTLEMEN“ – Drama, Comedy – USA – 2019
Director: Guy Ritchie Screenplay: Guy Richtie
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, Michelle Dockery, Charliw Hunnam, Henry Golding Film
Distribution: Leonine (Universum Film)
The British director Guy Ritchie (* 1968) first became known as the husband of the singer Madonna although he had already made his first film two years earlier: „Bube, Dame, König, grAS“ („Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels“). A weird gangster comedy in the style of Quentin Tarantino. Cool sayings, rapid tracking shots and absurd situations. The film quickly found a fan base, as did his second movie, „Snatch“,  shot in 2000 with the top stars Jason Statham, Brad Pitt (a brilliant role for Brad, speaking in incomprehensible slang and with a trained six-pack body) and Benicio del Toro.
After that, Guy Ritchie received numerous directing offers.
So he shot the first two episodes of a new Sherlock Holmes series with Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock, then „Codename U.N.C.L.“, „King Arthur – Legend of Sword“ and a film version of „Aladdin“.
However, these commissioned works by Guy Ritchie were partly well-made films, but they were not „real“ Guy Ritchie films.
But now comes a new „The Gentlemen“, which is at least as good as the films of its beginnings.
The story: the American Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey) has built an empire for growing marijuana plantations in Great Britain. After years of trouble, he now wants to retire and sell his empire. But that turns out to be more difficult than expected. All sorts of greasy types appear, one more shady than the other. The sale becomes a real horror story.
Guy Ritchie’s great skill lies in the ridiculous types he comes up with and the incredible stories and situations they got into.
The comparison with Tarantino limps, as Tarantino slowly builds up his stories in several chapters, while Guy Ritchie’s individual scenes come quickly like gunshots. The nested narrative style adds even more confusion. And you can hardly understand the actors with their sometimes extremely nasty slang.
And one more thing is downright awesome in Guy Ritchie’s film: The incredible change in appearance and behavior of such stars as Hugh Grant, Colin Farrel and Downtown Abbey actress Michelle Dockery.
Conclusion: For fans of weird gangster comedies. Sometimes quite brutal.

Also starting up:

„The Kangaroo Chronicles“ by Dani Levy.
Initially broadcast as a podcast on the Berlin Radio Fritz, the stories about a talking kangaroo that lives in Berlon-Kreuzberg with the narrator as his roommate in a shared apartment became an increasingly popular format.
Soon the chronicles of the songwriter, cabaret artist and author Marc-Uwe Kling were also available in book form, published by Ullstein-Verlag (2009) under the title „The Kangaroo – Chronicles: Views of a Preliminary Marsupial“. The second volume followed in 2011, a third in 2014 and a fourth in 2018.
The director Dani Levy (* 1957), who became known in 2005 with his film „Everything on Sugar“, took on this crazy kangoroo-story and turned it into a very funny movie. Not only does the kangaroo nest oneself with the narrator (Dimitrj Schaad) in a sort of community and turn his entire life upside down, it also claims to be a staunch communist and refuses to do any work because it is ultimately capitalist. No conversation partner is up to him with his spontaneous and disarmed sayings. For fans of movies such as „Ted“ (Mark Wahlberg with a teddy) from 2012 or „My Friend Harvey“ („Harvey“, James Stewart with a 2-meter rabbit) from 1950.

„La Verité – Live and let lie“ by Hirokazu Kore-eda with star ensemble Catherine Deneuve, Juliette Binoche and Ethan Hawke.
The film wonderfully shows how mother and daughter argue, discuss and come back together in a difficult and competitive relationship.
It is the story of Fabienne (Catherine Deneuve), who publishes her memoirs as a well-known actress and greatly glosses over the relationship with her daughter Lumir (Julliette Binoche). Since the book is read by millions and the daughter does not agree with the presentation of her person, she travels from New York with her husband Hank (Ethan Hawke). The meeting will be eventful.
For fans of French lightness even in tragic moments.
A recommendation!
