„DIE PARISERIN – AUFTRAG BASKENLAND“ (Mission Pays Basque) – Komödie – FR – 2017

Regie: Ludovic Bernard
Cast: Élodie Fontan, Florent Peyre, Daniel Prévost, Nicolas Bridet, Barbara Cabrita
Filmverleih: X-Film

Regie: Greta Gerwig
Cast: Saoirse Ronan
Filmverleih: Universal

Wolltet Ihr immer schon wissen was eigentlich „Coming-of-Age“ heißt?

„THE PARISIAN – MISSION OF BASKENLAND“ (Mission Pays Basque) – Comedy – FR – 2017
Director: Ludovic Bernard
Cast: Élodie Fontan, Florent Peyre, Daniel Prévost, Nicolas Bridet, Barbara Cabrita
Film Distribution: X-movie
The political and cultural centralization of Paris has always been a problem for our neighbors. Over the centuries, the supremacy of the capital had become established. Both the seat of the King and the later Democratic Parliament were always in the metropolis of the capital, which meant that most of the money and the entire state power came together in one place – and of course the arts as well. Anyone who wanted make career, „went up“ (je vais monter à Paris) in the megacity. This paralleled the fact that all other cities were diminished in their importance. Although every government promises further decentralization, but this was never really successful.
The fact that the so-called province has more to offer than is commonly known has been the subject of many films in France, such as in „Welcome to the Sch’tis“.
And now in „The Parisian“. A young Frenchwoman from the most beautiful city in the world is sent by a large supermarket group to the Basque Province (the most southwestern tip of France, below Bordeaux). In a small town she should actually buy a small hardware store, so there may be another branch of the supermarket chain. But she did not expect the resistance of the residents. Especially an attractive young man gets in her way. If only he would not look so cute …
For the whole family and friends of the French way of life.

„LADY BIRD“ – Tragedy Comedy – USA – 2017
Director: Greta Gerwig
Cast: Saoirse Ronan
Film Distribution: Universal
Have you always wanted to know what „coming-of-age“ means? Well, all you have to do is to go to this wonderful movie. The „coming out of one’s age“ really means nothing other than growing up. This moment is a very special one in the life of every human being. And everybody of us experienced it in all its facets: from terrible to normal to very wonderful. But nobody leaves it cold.
That’s the way of Christine (Saoirse Ronan) is in this film. She grows up in this middle-sized American city named Sacramento, prefers to leave as quickly as possible and has a profound hatred of love for her mother. In this time falls also their first love (or rather two) because there are two guys who successively (or maybe at the same time!) break her heart. What may sound like a pretty well-known film theme, is here a brilliantly implemented story with a really strong script. As I said, if you never knew what „coming-of-age“ should be: after watching this movie you know it – and after many emotions, laughing and crying. Worth seeing!
Perhaps one more word about the main character with the strange Irish first name: Saoirse Ronan (* 1994). The daughter of an Irish actor was born in New York and returned to Ireland with her parents at the age of three. Quickly she took over her father’s passion for acting and appeared early on stages and small television series. Her first major feature film episodes were „Atonement“ (2007) with Keira Knightly (Oscar and Golden Globe nomination) and „In My Heaven“ (2008) with Rachel Weisz and Mark Wahlberg. In 2011 came „Who is Hanna?“ with Cate Blanchett. For her role as Christine in „Lady Bird“, Saoirse Ronan received the Golden Globe as Best Actress this year. The film got the prize for best movie!
For the whole family, especially for daughters and their mothers.
Also new on the screen in Germany:
„THE 15:17 TO PARIS“ by Clint Eastwood about the terrorist attack on the TGV express train from Brussels to Paris in 2015. Three American soldiers on leave happen to be witnesses and can overcome the assassin.
„STRONGER“ by David Gordon Green with Jake Gyllenhaal about the bombing during the Boston Marathon in 2013. Jeff Baumann (Jake Gyllenhaal) lost both legs. The film shows his fight back to life.
