Großes Kino im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes erwartet uns diese Woche im Kino.
„THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI“ – Drama – USA, GB – 2017
Regie: Martin McDonagh (Brügge sehen…und sterben, 2008)
Cast: Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Peter Dinklage, Samara Weeving
Zunächst einmal der US-amerikanische Film „Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri“, welcher als heißer Kandidat auf den Oscar gilt, nicht nur für den besten Film und das beste Drehbuch, sondern auch für die beste Hauptdarstellerin Frances McDormand (Ehefrau von Joel Coen, Oscar für „Fargo“ und Golden Globe 2018) und für Sam Rockwell (Silberner Bär 2003 auf der Berlinale, Golden Globe 2018) für die beste Nebenrolle.
Mit bei diesem wunderbaren Cast sind außerdem Woody Harrelson (war zuletzt in den „Hunger Games“ und „Schloss aus Glass)“ zu sehen), Peter Dinklage („Games of Thrones“) und Beach-Beauty Samara Weaving (australisches Fotomodel).
Die Story: Die Tochter von Mildred (Frances McDormand), Angela, ist vor wenigen Monaten vergewaltigt und ermordet worden. Doch keinen scheint das zu kümmern. Und die Polizei hat auch kein Interesse den Mörder zu finden. Da installiert Mildred drei große Tafeln am Eingang des Ortes mit provozierenden Sprüchen. Und plötzlich ist der ganze Ort in Aufregung….
Fazit: Für Freunde des schwarzen Humors. Sehenswert!

„ON THE BEACH AT NIGHT ALONE“ – Drama – Südkorea – 2017
Regie: Sang-soo Hong
Cast: Min-Hee Kim, Young-hwa Seo, Hae-hyo Kwon

Manche meiner Kollegen von der Presse haben diesen Film schon auf der Berlinale 2017 gesehen, wo er beim Fachpublikum gut ankam. Der südkoreanische Regisseur Hong ist in seinem Land ein Star, oder besser gesagt, Kult. Denn er macht in keinem Fall Mainstream-oder Actionfilme. Sondern eher Kultobjekte für Filmliebhaber. Und regelmäßig findet man seine Werke auf Filmfestivals. Auch auf der Berlinale war er nun schon zum dritten Mal. Was macht ihn so außergewöhnlich? Nun, er dreht sehr authentisch, manchmal autobiographisch, immer direkt aus dem Leben. Wenn sich die Schauspieler im Film besaufen, tun sie es meist auch wirklich, einschließlich des Kameramanns und des Regisseurs. Hong arbeitet gerne mit Spiegelungen, Doppelungen, Wiederholungen. So kann es vorkommen, dass er Szenen oder ganze Filmelemente einfach noch einmal dreht – und dann aber beides in der Endversion zeigt. Auch „On the beach alone at night“ ist in zwei Teile geteilt. Der erste Teil spielt in Hamburg, wohin sich eine koreanische Schauspielerin (Min-Hee Kim) flüchtet, nachdem sie in Korea einen Skandal ausgelöst hatte. Ihr Freund, ein koreanischer Regisseur, sollte nachkommen, kommt aber nicht. Der zweite Teil spielt dann in Korea, zeigt ihr Leben dort, ihre Freunde, die sich in langen Gesprächen die sinnreiche Frage stellen, wie wichtig die Liebe sei. Was etwas kitschig klingt ist hier durchaus ernsthaft gemeint, auch wenn dabei viel Humor durchschimmert. Ein experimentelles Filmerlebnis.

Great cinema time this week is waiting for us.

First of all, the American movie „Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri“, which is considered a hot candidate for the Oscar, not only for the best film and the best script (Martin McDonagh), but also with leading actress Frances McDormand (wife of Joel Coen, Oscar for „Fargo“ and Golden Globe 2018) and Sam Rockwell (Silver Bear 2003 at the Berlinale, Golden Globe 2018) may expect an Academy Award for the best supporting role.
Woody Harrelson (most recently starring in „Hunger Games“ and „Glass Castle)“, Peter Dinklage („Games of Thrones“) and Beach-Beauty Samara Weaving (Australian model) are among the cast members.
The Story: The daughter of Mildred (Frances McDormand), Angela, was raped and murdered a few months ago. But nobody seems to care. And the police have no interest in looking for the killer. Mildred installs three large panels at the entrance of the village with provocative slogans. And suddenly the whole place is in excitement ….
Conclusion: For friends of black humor. Worth seeing!

Some of my colleagues from the press have already seen this film at the Berlinale 2017, where it was well received by the professional audience. South Korean director Hong is a star in his country, or rather cult. Because he does not make mainstream or action movies. But rather cult objects for movie lovers. And his works are regularly found at film festivals. He was also at the Berlinale for the third time. What makes him so special. Well, he’s very authentic, sometimes autobiographical, always straight out of life. When the actors get drunk in the movie, they usually do it in real, including the cameraman and the director. He likes to work with reflections, duplications, repetitions. So it can happen that he simply shoots scenes or entire movie elements again – and then shows both in the final version. „On the beach alone at night“ is also divided into two parts. The first is set in Hamburg, where a Korean actress fled after she had caused a scandal in Korea. Her friend, a Korean film director, should follow suit, but will not come. The second part then plays in Korea, shows her life there, her friends who ask the ingenious question of how important love is? What sounds a bit cheesy is meant seriously, even if it shimmers through a lot of humor. A movie experience.
