Emma Thompson ist wahrlich ein Phänomen. Sie ist die einzige Frau, die jemals sowohl als Schauspielerin (1992, „Wiedersehen in Howards End“), wie auch als Drehbuchautorin (1995 für das Drehbuch zu dem Film „Sinn und Sinnlichkeit, Regie: Ang Lee) einen Oscar gewann.
Emma Thompson, 1959 in London geboren, kommt aus einer reinen Schauspielfamilie. Zunächst viele Jahre beim Theater, bei dem sie ihren ersten Mann, Kenneth Branagh, kennenlernte und mit ihm auf Theatertournee ging, drehte sie 1989 ihren ersten Film. Schon drei Jahre später kam der Oscar für „Wiedersehen in Howards End“.
„Late Night“ ist bereits ihr 55. Film.
Emma Thompson ist zurzeit gemeinsam mit Helen Mirren (*1945) und Keira Knightley (*1985) die wichtigste und bekannteste britische Schauspielerin. Und auch ihr neuer Film ist hauptsächlich wegen ihr sehenswert.

Handlung
Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson) ist die überaus beliebte Moderatorin der Late-Night-Talkshow „Tonight with Katherine Newbury“ im Fernsehen. Allerdings schrumpfen die Zuschauerzahlen immer mehr und ihr wird vorgeworfen, nur mit Männern um sich herum zu arbeiten.
Um die Geschlechtergleichheit in ihrem Team etwas zu verbessern, engagiert sie die junge und bisher völlig unerfahrene Molly (Mindy Kaling).
Doch Molly will nicht nur Quotenfrau sein und versucht neue, frische Ideen einzubringen.
Aber Katherine hat Probleme sich von anderen etwas sagen zu lassen, besonders von einer Frau!
Doch als die Quoten mit Mollys neuen Ideen wieder steigen muss Katherine sich umstellen.
Wie ihr das gelingt ist äußerst amüsant und sehenswert. Ein humorvoller Film in Zeiten von Gender, Geschlechtergleichheit und Neo-Emanzipation.

Die 25-jährige Ava (Henriette Confurius, *1991) zieht nach dem Studium wieder bei ihrer Mutter ein, weil sie nicht gleich einen Job gefunden hat. Und einen Freund hat sie zurzeit auch nicht. Sie fühlt sich nicht mehr als Kind aber als reife Erwachsene auch noch nicht. Erst als sie eines Tages Kontakt mit dem städtischen Theater und deren Ensemble bekommt, findet sie zu sich selbst. Und zu einer neuen Liebe.

Emma Thompson is truly a phenomenon. She is the only woman ever to win an Oscar both as an actress (1992, „Howards End“), and as a scriptwriter (1995 for the screenplay for „Sense and Sensibility“, directed by Ang Lee).
Emma Thompson, born in London in 1959, comes from a pure acting family. First, many years at the theater, where she met her first husband, Kenneth Branagh, she made her first film in 1989. Just three years later, the Oscar came for „Howard’s End“.Her film „Late Night“ is already her 55th movie.
Emma Thompson is currently with Helen Mirren (* 1945) and Keira Knightley (* 1985), the most important and best-known British actress. And her new movie is mainly worth seeing because of her.
Story:
Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson) is the hugely popular presenter on the late-night talk show „Tonight with Katherine Newbury“ on television. However, the number of viewers is shrinking and she is accused of working only with men around her. To improve the gender equality in her team, she engages the young and previously totally inexperienced Molly (Mindy Kaling). But Molly does not just want to be a quota woman and tries to bring in new, fresh ideas. But Katherine has problems to accept ideas from others, especially from women! But with Molly’s new ideas the quota rise again, so Katherine has to change.
How she adapts at the new situation is extremely amusing and worth seeing. A humorous film in times of gender equality and neo-emancipation.

She no longer feels like a child but as mature adult yet. Only when she gets in touch with the city theater and its ensemble one day does she find herself and a new love.
