Die 90. Oscar Verleihung in Hollywood stand im Zeichen der Sexismus Debatte um #MeToo.
Es ist die größte und wichtigste Veranstaltung der Filmwelt und zeichnet jedes Jahr die besten Schauspieler, Regisseure, Kostümbildner, Set Designer und viele weitere Mitwirkende im Movie Business aus.
Aber jedes Mal wird die Show auch als politisches Statement genommen für Missstände in der Gesellschaft oder bei den Regierenden. Letztes Jahr war das große Thema die Wahl von Donald Trump zum 45. Präsidenten der USA. Und dieses Jahr ist es die Diskriminierung der Frauen in Film und Fernsehen.
Seit im Sommer 2017 herauskam, dass der berühmte Filmproduzent Harry Weinstein reihenweise Frauen missbraucht hat, ist die Welt nicht mehr die gleiche wie vorher. Zunächst ging es nur darum, daran zu erinnern, wie viele junge Schauspielerinnen auf ihrem Weg in eine Karriere von Produzenten und Regisseuren genötigt werden, mit ihnen zu schlafen. Eigentlich ist dieses Verhalten (die so genannte „Besetzungscouch“) jedem seit vielen Jahren bekannt. Nur hatte bisher keiner darüber öffentlich gesprochen, bzw. es angeprangert. Doch mittlerweile sind die Frauen selbstbewusster geworden und haben auch keine Angst mehr öffentlich darüber zu sprechen. Im Laufe des Sommers und Herbst 2017 meldeten sich immer mehr Opfer sexueller Übergriffe. Doch nicht nur junge Frauen sind das Ziel solchen Missbrauchs. Auch junge Männer müssen sich nicht gewollter Avancen wehren, wie im Fall des Schauspielers Kevin Spacey („House of Cards“). Es stellte sich heraus, dass Spacey jahrelang immer wieder junge Männer bei Film- oder Theaterproduktionen bedrängt oder genötigt hatte. Schließlich führte das dazu, dass er aus allen Verpflichtungen entlassen wurde und sogar aus einem schon fertigen Film herausgeschnitten wurde.
Bei der 90. Oscar Verleihung in Hollywood traten nun drei der Hauptakteure dieser Anschuldigungen gegen Harry Weinstein auf die Bühne. Asley Judd, Anabella Sciorra und Sema Hayek würdigten mit ihrem gemeinsamen Auftreten die #MeToo Bewegung.

Auch Moderator Jimmy Kimmel ging auf das Thema ein, indem er scherzhaft auf die Oscar Statue zeigte mit dem Hinweis, dass diese doch brav ihre Hände bei sich behalten würde und im übrigen auch keinen Penis hätte und somit keinerlei Gefahr von ihr ausginge. Dies sollte in Hollywood öfters geschehen. Ob das Heil der Filmbranche aber von schwanzlosen Eunuchen abhängt mag ich dann doch bezweifeln…
Auch Oscargewinnerin Frances McDormand bat bei ihrer Dankesrede alle nominierten Frauen sich zu erheben. Mit Hinweis auf diese außergewöhnlichen Frauen meinte sie, es gäbe so viele von ihnen, die hervorragende Ideen und große Talente besäßen. Es wäre eine Schande, dass nicht mehr Filme von Frauen gemacht würden. „Wir haben alle Geschichten zu erzählen und Projekte, die finanziert werden müssten“ sagte sie mi Hinweis auf die Produzenten im Saal.
Im Gegensatz dazu war die Kleiderwahl der Damen wieder klassisch elegant und bunt und nicht mehr rein schwarz, wie noch vor kurzem bei der Golden Globe Verleihung.
Aber Preise gab es auch:
Großer Gewinner war Guillermo del Toro für seinen Film „Shape of Water“. Der Film bekam 4 Oscars, darunter bester Film und beste Regie.
Schauspielerin Frances McDormand bekam den Oscar für ihre Rolle in „Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri“ und Gary Oldman für seine Rolle als Winston Churchill in „Darkest Hour“ (hier unsere Kritik über „DarkestHour“). Bester Nebendarsteller wurde Sam Rockwell in „Three billboards…“ und beste Nebendarstellerin Allison Janney in „I Tonya“. Bester ausländischer Film wurde „Eine fantastische Frau“ aus Chile (mit deutscher Co-Produktion). Ein Oscar ging auch an einen Deutschen: Gerd Nefzer erhielt die Auszeichnung für die besten „Visual Effects“ in „Blade Runner“.

The 90th Oscars in Hollywood were dedicated to the #MeToo sexism debate.
It is the largest and most important event in the film world and each year awards the best actors, directors, costume designers, set designers and many other contributors to the movie business.
But every time the show is also used as a political statements. Last year, the big topic was the election of Donald Trump as the 45th President of the United States. And this year it is the discrimination of women in film and television.
Since summer 2017, when it came out that the famous film producer Harry Weinstein has been abusing women in droves, the world is no longer the same as before. At first, it was all about remembering how many young actresses on their way to a career are being forced by producers and directors to sleep with them. Actually, this behavior (the so-called „occupation couch“) has been known to everyone for many years. But so far no one had talked about it publicly or denounced it. But now the women have become more self-confident and are not afraid to talk about it publicly. Over the summer and fall of 2017, more and more victims of sexual assault reported. But not only young women are the goal of abuse. Even young men have to fight against unwanted advances, as in the case of actor Kevin Spacey („House of Cards“). It turned out that for years Spacey had repeatedly harassed or coerced young men on film or theater productions. Eventually, after this revelations he was released from all obligations and even cut out of a finished film.
At the 90th Academy Awards in Hollywood, three of the main protagonists of the accusations against Harry Weinstein now appeared on the stage. Asley Judd, Anabella Sciorra and Sema Hayek paid tribute to the #MeToo movement.
Moderator Jimmy Kimmel also commented on the subject by jokingly pointing to the Oscar statue, pointing out that it would still keep its hands on itself and that, by the way, it would not have a penis and thus pose no danger to anybody. „This should happen more often in Hollywood“. he said. Whether the salvation of the film industry depends on tailless eunuchs – I may doubt it then …
Also Oscar winner Frances McDormand asked in her acceptance speech all nominated women to stand up. With reference to these extraordinary women, she said there were so many of them who had great ideas and great talents. It would be a shame that not more films were made by women. „We have all the stories to tell and projects that need funding,“ she said with reference to the producers in the hall.
In contrast, the women’s dresses choice was again classically elegant and no longer pure black, as it was recently at the Golden Globe Awards.
But there were also prizes:

Best foreign film was „A fantastic woman“ from Chile (with German co-production). An Oscar went to Germany: Gerd Nefzer received the award for the best „visual effects“ in „Blade Runner“
