Wie er tanzt, wie er singt! – Jamiroquai im Velodrom

Jamiroquai – ausverkauft.

Funk. Soul. Jazz.

How he dances, how he sings! – Jamiroquai in the velodrome

Jamiroquai – sold out. The velodrome was literally bursting at the seams, cloakrooms were closed due to overcrowding and the entrance to the arena area stopped because of a band that in the 90s was indispensable to the charts, radios, bars and clubs: Jamiroquai.

The couple of years that have passed since then, you can see Jay Kay, singer of the band a bit. A small Netflix tummy is visible under the very stylish, white Adidas jogging suit, the beard looks wiser and the dance moves a little less energetic than it did 20 or even 25 years ago.

But even during the first songs of the concert it is noticeable which professional with passion stands here on the microphone and on the stage. „Little L“, one of Jamiroquai’s best-known hits from 2001, sounds as close to the studio version at this concert as the first doubters claim Jason Kay would offer his audience a playback concert.

But of course everything is live here. The joy of the whole band, to finally lie down on a brilliant tour is palpable and the attention to the loving detail work for the stage show. Extravagant lighting effects dominate the show, from the screen to Jay Kay’s typical hat variations, and so the stage clearly communicates what Jamiroquai’s concert is all about: disco. Radio. Soul. Jazz.

With „The Kids“ from the album „The Return of the Space Cowboy“, the mood is right and the first impression is confirmed: The majority of the audience is a fan of the first hour. The well-known songs as well as the „Space Cowboy“ himself and of course „Cosmic Girl“ are sung along faultlessly. The older a title, the more the mood in the hall increases.

Probably for this reason, the second half of the concert delivers most of the dancing energy. „Alright“, „Canned Heat“ and „Love Foolosophy“ get even the last seat fanatics going and the really passionate encore „Virtual Insanity“ makes a round ending for any reveling Jamiroquai fan from the 90s.
