Vom 14. Sept. 2018 – 7.

Opera
Staatsoper Unter den Linden
The opening act of the season 2018/19, which is entitled „Furchtlos“, is the opening concert of the Musikfest on September 1, where the Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim will perform works by Pierre Boulez and Igor Strawinsky.
On September 16, there will be a sing-along with artists from the State Opera on the occasion of the season opener on Bebelplatz. Komische Oper Berlin
On September 30, 2018, Pemiere of „DIE TOTE STADT“ by Erich Wolfgang Korngold (1897 – 1957), who was a famous film musician in Hollywood in the 30s and 40s. The stage work „The Dead City“ is considered his greatest achievement and describes the story of a man who falls in love with the death of his beloved wife into a dancer who looks exactly like his deceased wife. But it is delusions that he can only get rid of if he leaves this city (Bruges) and his happenings behind. Musical direction: The new General Music Director of the Komische Oper, Ainārs Rubiķis, directed by Robert Carsen (also director of „Oceane“ at the Deutsche Oper). Here’s a hint on the wonderful movie „Bruges see … and die“ by Martin McDonagh from 2008 with Colin Farrell in the lead role.
On October 28, 2018, Premiere of „THE MAGICIAN OF OZ“ by Pierangelo Valtinoni (* 1959). The famous fairy tale of Lyman Frank Baum about the little Dorothy, who is abducted by a hurricane with her house in the mysterious land of Oz and there must be many adventures. In the US, this music theater knows every child, in this country only a few. To the enormous fame in the United States also contributed the US-American film adaptation of 1939 („The Wizard of Oz“) with Judy Garland. The most famous film from modern times is „The Fantastic World of Oz“ from 2013 with Mila Kunis, James Franco and Rachel Weisz.
On November 24, 2018, Premiere of „CANDIDE“ by Leonard Bernstein under the musical direction of Jordan de Souza and the director of director Barrie Kosky. The lesser-known opera by Bernstein tells (according to a novel by Voltaire) the story of Candide, who travels all over the world to forget the hopeless love of his Cunigunde and at the same time seek the good in man. At the end he finds one, but not the other. With Franz Hawlata as Voltaire, Allan Clayton as Candide.
On January 27, 2019, premiere of „LA BOHÈME“ by Puccini under the musical direction of Jourdan de Souza and directed by Barrie Kosky. With Nadja Mchantaf as Mimi, Vera-Lotte Böcker as Musetta and Liparit Avetisyan as Rodolfo. Actually a Christmas opera, but here it comes until the end of January for the premiere.
On March 16, 2019, the first performance of „POROS“ by Handel (premiere 1731) about the conqueror Alexander, who travels to India to conquer the subcontinent. But he did not count the cunning and treachery of the Indian King Poros and the seductive art of the beautiful Queen Mahamayas.
On 5 May 2019, premiere of „M – A CITY LOOKING FOR A MURDER“ by Moritz Eggert (* 1965) under the musical direction of Ainārs Rubiķis and directed by Barrie Kosky (also libretto). With Scott Hendricks as the killer. Film and opera come together again. The ingenious film by Fritz Lang from 1931 under the same title shows a child murderer hunted by a whole city. In this spiral of hatred and hatred, the spectator in the end no longer knows who the victim is and who the perpetrator is. At that time Peter Lorre played the role of the murderer in an Oscar-ready performance. In any case, you should watch the film again parallel to the staging at the Komische Oper!

Ballet
Staaballett Berlin
Great expectations lie on the new Intendanten team Johannes Öhmann and Sasha Waltz, whereby the latter does not hit until 2019.
On September 7, 2018, the premiere of „CELIS | EYAL“ with the choreography of the Belgian Stijn Celis „Your passion is pure joy to me“ with the music of Boulez, Nick Cave, Rubalcaba and Penderecki and the choreography „HALF LIFE“ of the Israeli Choreographer Sharon Eyal with music by Ori Lichtik.
On 4 November 2018, premiere of „LA BQYADÈRE“ (world premiere 1877) after the choreography of Marius Pepita and in the new production of Alexei Ratmansky. Music by Ludwig Minkus. The story: In ancient India, the temple dancer La Bayadère Nikia loves the soldier Solor, who is already promised to Gamsatti, the daughter of the maharaja. So the lovers can only meet in a dream world. Whatever they do in the most sensual way …
On February 15, 2019, Premiere of N.N. (Title not yet determined), a contemporary ballet by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar in the choreography of Anouk van Dijk with the music of Ori Lichtik.
On March 1, 2019, premiere of „LA SYLPHIDE“ in the choreography of August Bournonville (first performed in 1836) and in the new version of Frank Andersen. The story: In the Scottish Highlands: Shepherd James, who is about to marry his bride Effie, one day appears a winged forest fairy who has fallen in love with the shepherd. James is also delighted with the mythical creature, but he does not want to break the engagement with Effie. When the wedding ceremony comes, the wedding rings suddenly disappear. When he then follows the forest fairy, her love is disturbed by the evil witch Madge, who brings both to death, because the earthly and the supernatural can not unite. „La Bayadère“ is considered the breakthrough of a ballerina’s top dance to portray, together with the TuTu, the levitation of a mythical creature.
On April 4, 2019, premiere of „BALANCHINE | FORSYTHE | SIEGAL“ shows the ballet choreographies „Theme and Variations“ by George Balanchine with music by Tchaikovsky, „The Second Detail“ by William Forsythe with music by Thom Willems and a work by Richard Siegal, whose title is yet to be determined. And besides: The comedy on the Kurfürstendamm is now called „Comedy on the Kurfürstendamm in the Schiller Theater“, since she moved to her alternative accommodation on the Bismarckstraße in summer. Where the State Opera had previously been waiting for the renovation of their Unter den Linden building, it is now the comedy that is awaiting the completion of their new theater on the Kudamm. But the Schiller Theater is not a bad place, as we have seen in the successful productions of the Staatsoper over 6 years.

The most important in this year: The former ABC (last on the Gleisdreieck) is the ART BERLIN through the involvement of Cologne Art Cologne and moves to the former Tempelhof Airport. And the art fair POSITIONS, last year still in the arena, also goes to Tempelhof and relates the hangar 4. After the Volksbühne moved out, there is now room for other events.

He had inherited it from his father, Hildebrandt Gurlitt, who was an art expert for the Nazis in the Third Reich. The most beautiful works from French Impressionism to German Expressionism, which was considered degenerate under Hitler, can be seen in this exhibition. Really spectacular! The exhibition could be seen in spring in the Bundeskunsthalle, here the report of our art expert Klaus Honnef: „Inventory Gurlitt“.
