Guido Knopp, Kampen Literatursommer © C.Bertelsmann

Montag, 13.

Uwe Karsten Heye, Kampen Literatursommer © Uwe Karsten Heye

Samstag, 15.

Gregor Gysi, Kampen Literatursommer © Joachim Gern

Summer of Culture – Sylt 2018
By Karin Zander18.07.2018
Sylt in the summer – always a spectacle of a special kind
The summer holidays begin and the island of SYLT (the Germans Long Island) is transforming from a beautiful spot in the North Sea into the coveted holiday island, where there is hardly a free bed for weeks and rarely a parking space. We could think a long time about why the flair of this island attracts most people just when peace and relaxation are to find only in counter-cyclical. But let’s just do it differently and look at what the island has to offer those who want to enjoy not only sun and beach, but also culture. And there are amazing things:

KEITUM
A musical highlight of the Sylter summer season 2018 takes place every year in the almost thousand-year-old Keitum sailor church, which is famous for its concert program.

ST. SEVERIN CHURCH
On Friday, July 27 at 6 pm
SUMMER CONCERT
the scholarship holders and winners of the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben.
This year, 7 young artists will arrive: Maria Duenas (violin, * 2003), Dorothea Stepp (violin, * 1996), Ziyun Shen (viola and cello, * 1997), Max Vogler (oboe, * 1993) and Jan-Aurel Dawidiuk ( Organ, harpsichord, * 2001). They play works by Vivaldi, Mozart and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.
Admission is free, but early arrival makes sense, if you want to get one of the coveted seats.

The weekly WEDNESDAY CONCERTS in St. Severin also offer a rich concert program at a high level. Only a few are mentioned here:

On July 18, 2015 pm, THREE SONATES FOR VIOLONCELLO by Johann Sebastian BACH, CELLO: James Bush (New Zealand) – CEMBALO: Alexander Ivanov
On August 22, 8.15 pm, MATTHIAS EISENBERG and Christina Brabetz, organ
On 5 September, 8.15 pm, GOLDBERG VARIATIONS by Johann Sebastian BACH, ORGAN: Alexander Ivanov

Entirely different cultural events are offered by the MEERKABARETT, which can now be found at three venues on the island:
In the hall of the SYLT-SOURCE in Rantum, in the FRIESENSAAL in Keitum and in the DÜNENPARK List
The program is so diverse that surely every Sylt vacationer will find one or more evenings that attract him. Again, a selection:

On Thursday, July 26th at 7pm, In the Dune Park List, ANASTACIA, „The Evolution Tour 2018“
The pop legend on Sylt! If that is not an event of superlatives!
Anastacia presents her brand new album, „Evolution“, which returns her musical origins, captivating rock numbers alternating with catchy pop songs and moving ballads, with her distinctive, emotional voice.

On Tuesday, 7th of August at 8 pm, in the Friesensaal in Keitum, MARTIN SONNEBORN, „Live – Riot and Satire“
An evening with Germany’s chief satirist as a multimedia spectacle with reading passages from ‚Heimatkunde‘, films and political agitation.

On Sunday, August 12th at 8 pm, in the event hall Sylt Quelle, Rantum, CHRISTIAN EHRING, „NO OTHER QUESTIONS“
He is the man who annoyed Erdogan. An article in Christian Ehring’s satirical show „extra3“ in March 2016 upset the Turkish president so much that he ordered the German ambassador. In addition, Ehring belongs to the team of the „heute-show“ and is well known to insiders as a member of the DĂŒsseldorfer Kom (m) ödchens for many years.

On Saturday, August 25th and Sunday, August 26th, at 8:00 pm, in the event hall Sylt Quelle, Rantum, JAN JOSEF LIEFERS & Band RADIO DORIA
For years the actor and singer Jan Josef Liefers tours regularly with his band through Germany. „Radio Doria“ delivers great pop music. A blind-understanding band with a singer who would never be trusted to give genius-stilted Professor Karl-Friedrich Boerne at the scene on Sunday evenings „Tatort“ crime television series.

On Thursday, August 30 at 8 pm, in the event hall Sylt Source (Mineral Water) in Rantum, THOMAS QUASTHOFF interprets „Nice` n ‚Easy!“ A jazz evening full of lightness together with Frank Chastenier (piano), Dieter Ilg (contrabass) and Wolfgang Haffner (drums).
After Thomas Quasthoff retired in 2012 from the classical concert podiums and opera stages, he devoted himself – in addition to comprehensive educational activities – intense jazz singing. „I always sang jazz. It has always been part of my musical life, „says Thomas Quasthoff.

On Wednesday, 5 September at 8 pm, in the event hall Sylt Quelle, Rantum, MATTHIAS BRANDT & JENS THOMAS, „Psycho – Fantasy on the cold horror“
The actor Matthias Brandt interprets Hitchcock’s filmic work of the century „Psycho“ together with the pianist and singer Jens Thomas. Brandt uses elements from the literary model. Jens Thomas, referred by the SĂŒddeutsche Zeitung as „Jimi Hendrix of the Wing“, improvises a soundtrack to Brandt’s staged reading. This evening is not fixed and routinely rehearsed, but lives on the intense, spontaneous interaction between the two actors.

KAMPEN
The small village with mudflats on one side and the open sea on the other, mutates in the summer to the glittering meeting point of the beautiful and rich, who throng with their SUVs through the Strönwai street, the party mile of the village, celebrate parties in their luxurious dream villas or meet in GOGÄRTCHEN or PONY. The champagne flows even on the beach and the – actually real! – Sunset becomes a fascinating background spectacle for Vanity’s shows. But there are also people here who want to see the island with different eyes. The cultural program at the town hall Kaamp HĂŒs is certainly a good alternative to the elite fair of celebrities and would-be celebrities.

THE KAMPENER LITERATURE AND CULTURAL SUMMER
In the KAMP – HÜS

On Friday, August 10 at 8 pm, GUIDO KNOPP, „My Story“
He coined the new documentary television and became the most important history teacher for millions of viewers. Now Mister History looks back!

Monday, August 13 at 8 pm, PIANO, AMADEUS WIESENSEE
Works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Busoni and Messiae

On Thursday, 23rd of August at 8 pm, UWE – CARSTEN HEYE, „And do not forget“
The journalist Uwe-Karsten Heye worked as a speechwriter for Willy Brandt and as an author for ARD and ZDF, was government spokesman for Gerhard Schröder and later Consul General in Washington and editor-in-chief of „VorwĂ€rts“.
With his touching and beautifully narrated autobiography, Uwe-Karsten Heye presents a very personal history book.

On Saturday, September 15 at 8 pm, GREGOR GYSI, „One life is too little“
As open and personal as ever: the autobiography
The lawyer and politician has shaped left thinking in public like no other.

If you want more entertainment, you can be surprised. But if there is one or the other holidaymakers who would rather search for a quiet corner on the beach with a good book, then he should have happiness and fantasy and always follow the advice: Silently it is where the others are not! In this sense, I wish „RĂŒm Hart- Klaar Kimmig!“ – A firm heart and a wide horizon – the best souvenirs from the island – and completely for free!
