Uraufführung 1922 in Köln. Die Prinzessin wird von Elena Tsallagova gesungen, der Zwerg von David Butt Philip.
  3. April 2019.

Komische Oper

Komische Oper Berlin © Holger Jacobs/ kultur24.berlin

  1. Januar 2019.

Der einzige weitere Terrorfilm in den All Time Top 100 ist erst wieder Mel Gibsons The Passion of Christ.

Mit: Jürgen Holtz, Andreas Döhler, Bettina Hoppe, Peter Luppa, Sina Martens, Wolfgang Michael, Peter Moltzen, Rocco Mylord, Owen Peter Read, Stefanie Reinsperger, Aljoscha Stadelmann.

5 May 2019, premiere of „M – A CITY LOOKING FOR A MURDER“ by Moritz Eggert (* 1965) under the musical direction of Ainārs Rubiķis and directed by Barrie Kosky (also libretto). With Scott Hendricks as the killer. Film and opera come together again. The ingenious film by Fritz Lang from 1931 under the same title shows a child murderer hunted by a whole city. In this spiral of hatred and hatred, the spectator in the end no longer knows who the victim is and who the perpetrator is. At that time Peter Lorre played the role of the murderer in an Oscar-ready performance. In any case, you should watch the film again parallel to the staging at the Komische Oper!

Ballet (premieres until the end of the season)
Staatsballett Berlin
February 15, 2019, premiere of „VAN DIJK | EYAL“. Anouk van Dijk is a Dutch dancer and choreographer who has her own company since 1998. She became known for her „Countertechnique“, a movement technique in which dissolute movements of one body part are compensated by opposing movements of other body parts. In Berlin her work was already admired in 2009 and 2010 at the Schaubühne. Her choreography is called „DISTANT MATTER“.
The second piece of this evening, „HALF LIFE“ by Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar with music by Ori Lichtik, premiered in Berlin on Sept. 7, 2018. Kultur24 reported.
March 1, 2019, premiere of „LA SYLPHIDE“ in the choreography of August Bournonville (first performed in 1836) and in the new version of Frank Andersen. The story: In the Scottish Highlands: Shepherd James, who is about to marry his bride Effie, one day appears a winged forest fairy who has fallen in love with the shepherd. James is also delighted with the mythical creature, but he does not want to break the engagement with Effie. When the wedding ceremony comes, the wedding rings suddenly disappear. When he then follows the forest fairy, her love is disturbed by the evil witch Madge, who brings both to death, because the earthly and the supersensible can not unite. „La Bayadère“ is considered the breakthrough of a ballerina’s top dance to portray, together with the TuTu, the levitation of a mythical creature.
On April 4, 2019, premiere of „BALANCHINE | FORSYTHE | SIEGAL“ shows ballet choreographies „Theme and Variations“ by George Balanchine with music by Tchaikovsky, „The Second Detail“ by William Forsythe with music by Thom Willems and „Oval“ by Richard Siegal. The music comes from Carsten Nikolai.

Theatre
Deutsches Theater Berlin
Theme of the season: „Who Wen“
01/13/2019. Premiere of „ANTIGONE“ by Sophocles. Director: Lilja Rupprecht. With Manuel Harder as Kreon and Zora Schemm as Antigone
01/20/2019. Premiere of „IN THE THING J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER“ by Heinar Kipphardt. Director: Christopher Rüping. A piece about the inventor of the atomic bomb. With Felix Goeser, Michael Goldberg, Camill Jammal, Maike Knirsch, Katharina Matz and Wiebke Mollenhauer
01/30/2019. Premiere of „BLACK MARIA“ by René Polleschhandlung: In 1973 and 1975, two terror films (in a modification of the horror film genre) established the era of blockbuster cinema. Jaws is directly influenced by The Exorcist, especially in his opening scene, which reenacts the exorcism scene from the latter. The only other terrorist movie in the All Time Top 100 is again Mel Gibson’s The Passion of Christ. The birthplace of commercial cinema is probably the Black Maria, the first film studio built in 1893 in the world. With: Franz Beil, Benjamin Lillie, Astrid Meyerfeldt, Jeremy Mockridge and Katrin Wichmanm

Berliner Ensemble
01/12/2019. Premiere of „THE ANTIGONE OF SOPHOKLES“ by Bertholt Brecht, directed by Veit Schubert. A coproduction with Ernst-Busch University of Drama Berlin. Action: When Bertholt Brecht returned fresh from American exile in 1947, he presented an Antigone treatment and brought it to the premiere in the Swiss Chur itself. Brecht used the ancient material as a parable about the responsibility of the individual in the face of great injustice and as an analysis of state arbitrariness, resistance and violence. The Nazi terror, Auschwitz and Stalingrad stood him in the background admonishingly. With: Aysima Ergün (Antigone), Annina Walt (Ismene), Oscar Hoppe (Creon), Skye McDonald (Haemon), Aniol Kirberg (Tiresias), Enno Trebs (Guardian)
01/19/2019. Premiere of „GALILEO GALILEI“ by and after Bertholt Brecht with music by Hanns Eisler. Director: Frank Castorfhandlung: In 1938, in exile in Denmark, Bertolt Brecht writes „Life of Galileo“. Rarely does a play have such a turbulent history as the drama surrounding the physicist Galileo Galilei, who on 22 June 1633, before the church inquisition, recalls the statement that the earth revolves around the sun because it does not seem compatible with biblical cosmology. Brecht’s verdict is clear: „He who does not know the truth is just a fool, but whoever knows her and calls her a lie is a criminal!“ With: Jürgen Holtz, Andreas Döhler, Bettina Hoppe, Peter Luppa, Sina Martens, Wolfgang Michael, Peter Moltzen, Rocco Mylord, Owen Peter Read, Stefanie Reinsperger, Aljoscha Stadelmann.
01/26/2019. Premiere / World Premiere of „heiner 1 – 4 (flying angels, eavesdropped)“ by Fritz Kater. Director: Lars-Ole Walburg in the Small House of BE. Action: Heiner Müller, born in 1929 in Saxony, is considered one of the most important German-language dramatists and writer personalities of the GDR. The lyricist, prose author and essayist, who died in 1995, was also active as a director, dramaturge and president of the Berlin Academy of Arts (East) and not least from 1992 as co-director and later sole director of the Berliner Ensemble. Theater author Fritz Kater wrote a piece about and about Heiner Müller. In this, Kater plays in different textures with the theater itself and fans out what is said and lived by Müller far and wide. About the love story between Heiner Müller and Brigitte Maria Mayer or interview scraps about art and society from the post-revolutionary years, as well as a play in the piece and a monologue about life, the end and all the rest.

Schaubühne
18 January 2019. Premiere / Premiere of „STATUS QUO“ by Maja Zade. Director: Marius von Mayenburg. Action: „status quo“ shows the world as it is, merely mirrored: the object of desire and discrimination – in the professional and in the domestic – is the man here. The reversal of the real balance of power makes the mechanisms of inequality in a biting as well as funny satire stand out in all sharpness. The path of suffering of the protagonist Florian in three different professional situations makes the absurdity of a power gap visible, to which one has become so used that one considers it normal. With: Moritz Gottwald, Jule Böwe, Marie Buchard, Jenny König and Lukas Turtur
Maxim Gorki Theater
01/11/2019. Premiere of „THE NIGHT IN LISBON“ after the novel by Erich Maria Remarque. Director & Stage: Hakan Savaş MicanAction: The Port of Lisbon was the place where many exiles joined together to escape from fascist Europe. From here the ships went to the US, for most the threshold to freedom – a ticket and a visa – was insurmountable. The Night of Lisbon is the account of Helen and Joseph and their desperate love of fleeing Europe. Hakan Savaş Mican’s transcription follows Remarque’s narrative on a journey from Osnabrück via Zurich and Paris to Lisbon.

The kick-off event will take place at the Akademie der Künste on Hanseatenweg in Berlin-Tiergarten, from 16-24 January 2019.
