„ARISE GRAND SHOW heißt die neue Kreation.

The Voice of Germany“ auffiel.

The Friedrichstadt-Palast with a new show from August 7th, 2021

By Holger Jacobs

March 31, 2021

The new revue in Berlin’s famous variety theater will be realized this time by four renowned choreographers. One of them is Eric Gauthier, whom I only recently introduced to you.

The corona pandemic has also hit Friedrichstadt-Palast hard. The last big show, „VIVID“, the most successful of all to date, had to end earlier than originally intended. Like almost all event locations, the house has been closed for 4 months now.
Usually the 1895 seats are sold out almost every day.
Director Dr. Berndt Schmidt therefore decided not to restart the old show after the corona lockdown, but to invest in a completely new revue.

„ARISE GRAND SHOW“ is the name of the new creation. It’s about love and loss and regaining great feelings. Just like all of us in this pandemic. Nothing stays as it was. We have to overcome loneliness and look for warmth and closeness again.
The book for the story was written by the English creative director William Baker, who was responsible for the world tours „Aphrodite“ and „Kiss Me Once“ by the Australian pop singer Kylie Minogue. He was supported by Oliver Hoppmann, creative director of the Friedrichstadt-Palast. Hoppmann will also direct the play.
Story: The famous photographer Cameron flies with his muse all over the world to realize his photo productions in the most exciting places. But one day his great love disappeared and he only has his photos as a memory. These suddenly come to life and make his memories real.

The story is based on the real life of the fashion photographer Kristian Schuller, who also works as art director on this production.

It seems that the new show will be a mixture of Germany’s Next Top Model (for whom Kristian Schuller was also often engaged as a photographer) and contemporary dance in all its diversity.
This time, not only one choreographer will be responsible for the obligatory dance scenes, but four of the most renowned representatives of the genre.

First and foremost the Israeli choreographer OHAD NAHARIN, who showed his work “Secus” at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin a few years ago. At the time, Kultur24 reported on the premiere on October 20, 2015.
One of my photographs of Ohad Naharin’s „Secus“ hung in the exhibition “Century of Dance” in the Academy of Arts in 2019.

Furthermore, the Australian choreographer ASHLEY WALLEN, who became known for the dance scenes with Hugh Jackman in the film „The Greatest Showman“ from 2017.
Then the half-Jamaican NIKEATA THOMPSON, who stood out in Germany for her work on “The Voice of Germany”.

And last but not least, ERIC GAUTHIER, about whom I reported in detail in February of this year.
Eric Gauthier, who belongs to the be a mover community of Daimler AG and whose dance festival Colors International Dance Festival in Stuttgart is also supported by Daimler’s WE CARE WE DO WE MOVE, was in Berlin a fortnight ago to work at the Friedrichstadt-Palast prepare.
He took his visit to the capital as an opportunity to meet some important personalities from the dance and music scene who will be involved in his project “THE DYING SWANS”.

The project „THE DYING SWANS“ by Eric Gauthier consists of 16 different choreographies with 16 different dancers and is to be shown in different houses this year. Here, too, Daimler AG is the main sponsor.

Eric Gauthier last met the first principal violist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Amihai Grosz, who is also to become part of the “THE DYING SWANS” project. Grosz just came out of rehearsal with the Philharmonic and their chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, who were rehearsing for the pilot project of the Berlin Senate:
On March 20, 2021, 1,000 spectators were once again able to attend a live concert in the Philharmonic (2,400 seats).
The idea of the Pilot Project:
With the (online) ticket you buy a corona quick test at the same time, which was only carried out on the 1000 guests shortly before the performance in the afternoon. 500 tests on site in the Philharmonie with 49 employees of the Charité hospital and another 500 in several test centers in Berlin. The evening was a complete success (not a single guest tested positive).
Due to the increasing incidence of the last few days, this experiment has unfortunately been abandoned, as it became known today. Pity!
Eric Gauthier, however, was happy about his numerous meetings (of course, always at a distance and hygiene measures) in Berlin and will be fully committed to his commitment in the Friedrichstadt-Palast over the next few months.
The premiere of the ARISE GRAND SHOW is scheduled for August 2021.
As far as the corona pandemic allows …
