An diesem Wochenende kommen allerhand Horror-Filme ins Kino („Thor 3“, „Saw 8“, „Der kleine Vampir“) Dank dem bevorstehenden Halloween Fest, welches wir mittlerweile in Europa ähnlich intensiv feiern wie in den USA. Leider nicht mein Ding. Trotzdem wünsche ich Euch Hexen und Vampiren am 31. Oktober eine feucht-fröhliche Gruselnacht.
„MAUDIE“ – Drama, Biopic – Irland, Kanada – 2016

Dieser wirklich wunderbare Film geht auf die wahre Geschichte von Maud Lewis (*1903 † 1970) zurück, die Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts mit ihrem Mann auf der kanadischen Insel Nova Scotia bei Halifax (über das man immer fliegt, wenn man von Europa nach New York fliegt) lebte und durch ihre Malkünste zu einer kleinen nationalen Berühmtheit wurde.
Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) leidet seit ihrer Kindheit an einer rheumatischen Erkrankung, was ihre Bewegungsfreiheit stark einschränkt. Sie lebt bei ihrer Tante Ida, fühlt sich aber nutzlos und als Last für Andere. Deswegen nimmt sie trotz ihrer Behinderung eines Tages einen Job als Haushälterin bei dem Fischer Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) an. Dieser wortkarge Mann bleibt genauso verschlossen wie sie, bis Maudie eines Tages aus Langeweile beginnt das Haus zu streichen. Von den Wänden über die Fenster bis zu Tisch und Stuhl. Nichts ist vor ihrer Mallust sicher. Auch die beiden störrischen Menschen kommen sich langsam näher. Sie beginnt kleine Postkarten zu bemalen, die von den Kunden ihres Mannes gerne gekauft werden. Eines Tages kommt eine Kunstsammlerin aus New York und kauft ihr ein Bild ab. Von diesem Moment an wird sie in der Kunstszene bekannt und die Einnahmen aus ihrer Malerei übersteigen auf einmal die Gewinne des Mannes aus der Fischerei. Damit ändert sich auch das Verhältnis der beiden untereinander – sie müssen sich neu orientieren, als Mann und Frau.
Ein wirklich schönes kleines Oeuvre aus Kanada, welches seine Premiere bereits im Februar hier bei uns auf der Berlinale hatte. Eine Empfehlung!

Ebenfalls laufen an: „FUCK JU GÖTHE 3“ mit den Publikumslieblingen Elyas M’Barek als Lehrer Müller und Jella Haase als Schülerin Chantal. Gut gemachter Klamauk um eine Schulklasse vorm Abitur. Für die Altersklasse 15 – 25 Jahre.

Der Film „SOMMERHÄUSER“ von Regisseurin Sonja Kröner zeigt eine Familie im heißen Sommer 1976 bei ihrem jährlichen Treffen im Anwesen der Oma Sophie. Doch Oma ist jüngst gestorben und alte Rechnungen werden beglichen. Für die ganze Familie. Anmerkung: Der Sommer 1976 war übrigens wirklich extrem heiß – ich habe ihn selbst erlebt – auf der Ferieninsel Sylt; die Nordsee in einem Klima wie das Mittelmeer.

„DIE UNSICHTBAREN“ von Claus Räfle. Ein dokumentarischer Spielfilm über die letzten Überlebenden der jüdischen Gemeinde in Berlin, die trotz aller Verfolgung bis zur Befreiung 1945 in der Stadt überleben konnten. Ca. 7000 von ursprünglich 150.000 Menschen jüdischen Glaubens. Spannend und unterhaltsam zugleich. Für die ganze Familie.

This weekend, all sorts of horror movies come to the cinema („Thor 3“, „Saw 8“, „The Little Vampire“) Thanks to the upcoming Halloween festival, which we are now celebrating similarly intensively in Europe. Unfortunately not my thing. Nevertheless, I wish all witches and vampires on 31 October a happy and creepy night.

This truly wonderful film dates back to the true story of Maud Lewis (* 1903 † 1970), who lives in the early twentieth century with her husband on the Canadian island of Nova Scotia near Halifax (which you always overfly when traveling from Europe to New York) and became a small national celebrity through her painting.
Maud Lewis (Sally Hawkins) has been suffering from a rheumatic disease since her childhood, which greatly restricts her possibility of movement. She lives with her aunt Ida, but feels useless and a burden for others. That is why, despite her disability, she takes a job as a housekeeper at the fischerman Everett Lewis (Ethan Hawke) one day. This taciturn man remains just as shut as she, until Maudie one day begins to paint the house. From the walls over the windows to the table and chairs. Nothing is safe from her passion. The two stubborn people are also approaching slowly. She begins to paint small postcards, which are bought by the customers of her husband. One day an art collector from New York comes and buys her a picture. From this moment on, she is known in the art scene, and the revenues from her painting at once exceed the profits of the man from fishing. This also changes the relationship between the two – they must reorient themselves as a man and a woman.
A truly beautiful little oeuvre from Canada, which had already premiered here in February at our Berlinale Filmfestival. A recommendation!

The film „SUMMER HOUSES“ by director Sonja Kröner shows a family in the hot summer of 1976 at their annual meeting in the estate of Grandma Sophie.
