Das wichtigste und auch glamouröseste Filmfestival der Welt ist am Samstag mit der Vergabe der Goldenen Palme zu Ende gegangen.
Mit einer würdevollen Preisverleihung gingen die 71. Filmfestspiele von Cannes zu Ende. Auf dem Roten Teppich sangen überraschend der britische Sänger Sting und und der jamaikanische Ragea-Pop Sänger Shaggy ein kleines Konzert.

Die Goldene Palme, und damit die höchste Auszeichnung des Festivals, ging an den Japaner Kore-Eda Hirokazu für seinen berührenden Film „Manbiki Kazoku“ („Shoplifters“) über eine Außenseiterfamilie am Rande der japanischen Gesellschaft. Aus dem Land der aufgehenden Sonne ist der Zuschauer eigentlich nur Heldengeschichten gewohnt von ehemaligen Samurais oder edlen Damen und Herren in feiner Gesellschaft mit penibel inszenierten Traditionen. Dieser Film aber zeigt das krasse Gegenteil. Bei Hirokazu geht es um nichts anderes als das nackte Überleben in einer unbarmherzigen Umgebung. Und trotzdem bleibt Zeit für menschliche Wärme und Humor – großartig.

Der zweitwichtigste Preis, der Große Preis der Jury, ging an Altmeister Spike Lee, den ich bereits vor 27 Jahren persönlich beim Filmfestival in Cannes kennengelernt habe, als er 1991 seinen Film „Jungle Fever“ mit den damals noch ganz jungen Wesley Snipes und Samuel L. Jackson im Wettbewerb zeigte. Drei Jahre später kam Samuel L. Jackson übrigens wieder nach Cannes zurück mit dem überragenden Film „Pulp Fiction“ von Quentin Tarantino, der dann natürlich auch die Goldene Palme gewann! Spike Lees neuster Film „BlacKkLansman“ ist die wahre Geschichte eines schwarzen Polizisten, der sich in den Ku Klux Klan einschleust.

Bester Schauspieler wurde in Cannes 2018 Marcello Fonte für seine Rolle in „Dogman“ von Matteo Garrone und beste Schauspielerin Samal Yeslyamova aus Kasachstan für ihre Rolle im Film „Ayka“ von Serge Dvortsevoy. Auch hier eine Außenseitergeschichte. Die Kirgisin Ayka versucht sich in Moskau mit Billigjobs durchzuschlagen. Ein schonungsloser Blick hinter die Kulisse einer Millionenstadt, von der wir in der nach-sowjetischen Zeit eigentlich nur noch glamouröse Bilder von milliardenschweren Oligarchen zu sehen bekommen. Doch für den größten Teil der russischen Gesellschaft hat sich auch nach dem Ende der Sowjetunion 1991 nichts geändert.

Für einen anderen Altmeister, Jean-Luc Godard, wurde dieses Mal sogar ein eigener Preis erfunden: Der Preis „Special Palme d’Or“ für seinen Film „Le livre d’ image“. Eine Verneigung vor diesem 87-jährigen großen Filmemacher und Mitbegründer der „Nouvelle Vague“, zu denen hauptsächlich Francois Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer, Alain Resnais und Jacques Rivette gehörten. Die Filme von Godard, „Außer Atem“, „Die Verachtung“, Pierrot le Fou“ und „Prénom Carmen“ werden für immer in Erinnerung bleiben.
Die #TimesUp und #MeToo Debatte durfte auch bei diesem Festival nicht fehlen. Eines Abends brachte Jury-Präsidentin Cate Blanchett 80 Frauen mit auf den Roten Teppich, allesamt Filmschaffende, und reklamierte mehr Frauen in der Filmindustrie und mehr Filme von Frauen in den Wettbewerben der Filmfestivals.
Und bei der diesjährigen Abschluss Gala am Samstag hielt die italienische Schauspielerin Asia Argento eine Flamme Rede gegen den sexuellen Missbrauch junger Frauen in der Filmindustrie. Sie sei selbst ein Opfer gewesen und wäre von Harvey Weinstein vergewaltigt worden, genau hier in Cannes, vor 21 Jahren. Und auch heute Abend würden hier im Publikum Menschen sitzen, die das mitgekommen, aber nie etwas gesagt hätten. Viele betroffene Gesichter im Zuschauerraum…

Cannes wäre aber nicht Cannes, wenn es nicht auch glamourös feiern könnte. Dazu werden neben den üblichen Celebrities die angesagtesten Models aus der ganzen Welt eingeflogen, um den Veranstaltungen den nötigen Glanz zu geben. Und die Designer haben die Möglichkeit ihre elegantesten Abendkleidern einem großen Publikum auf dem Roten Teppich zu präsentieren.
Die schönsten Models in Cannes waren Kendall Jenner, Bella Hadid, Elsa Hosk, Stella Maxwell, Sara Sampaio und dazu das deutsche Model Lorena Rape. Aber auch die früheren Topstars wie Izabel Goulart, Karolina Kurnikova, Adriana Lima und Doutzen Kroes waren eingeladen.
Die Designer, deren Kleider am häufigsten getragen wurden, waren Elie Saab , Alexis Mabille und Zuhair Murad aus Paris, Maison Valentino und Atelier Versace aus Italien, Ralph & Russo und Michael Cinco aus London, Tom Ford aus den USA.
Die größte und wichtigste Party ist sicher die jährlich hier stattfindende AMFAR Gala – eine Veranstaltung zugunsten der Anti-Aids Hilfe. Doch an diese tödliche Viruserkrankung dachte in diesem Moment wohl keiner, als die schönsten Roben am sicher schönsten Ort der Cote d’ Azur, dem Hotel du Cap/ Eden Roc auf dem Cap d’ Antibes (gehört übrigens der Oetkar-Dynastie) auftraten. By the way: An diesem Abend machte Fashion Model und GNTM Moderatorin Heidi Klum ihre neue Liebe zum 16 Jahre jüngeren Tokio Hotel Sänger Tom Kaulitz öffentlich. Na, wenn das keine Nachricht ist…

A Japanese film wins the Golden Palm of Cannes 2018
The 71st Cannes Film Festival ended saturday with a dignified award ceremony. Surprisingly, the British singer Sting and the Jamaican ragea-pop singer Shaggy sang a small concert on the red carpet.
The Golden Palm, and thus the highest award of the festival, went to the Japanese Kore-Eda Hirokazu for his touching film „Manbiki Kazoku“ („Shoplifters“) about an outsider family on the fringes of Japanese society. From the land of the rising sun, the spectator is really only used to heroic stories of former samurais or noble ladies and gentlemen in fine company with meticulously staged traditions. But this film shows the opposite. Hirokazu is about nothing else but survival in a ruthless environment. And yet there is time for human warmth and humor – great.
The second most important prize, the Jury Grand Prix, went to old master Spike Lee, whom I met 27 years ago personally at the Cannes Film Festival, when he released 1991 his film „Jungle Fever“ with the then young Wesley Snipes and Samuel L Jackson in the competition. By the way, three years later, Samuel L. Jackson came back to Cannes with the outstanding movie „Pulp Fiction“ by Quentin Tarantino, who of course won the Golden Palm! Spike Lee’s new film „BlacKkLansman“ is a true story of a black policeman who invades the Ku Klux Klan.
Best actor in Cannes in 2018 was Marcello Fonte for his role in „Dogman“ by Matteo Garrone and best actress Samal Yeslyamova from Kazakhstan for her role in the film „Ayka“ by Serge Dvortsevoy. Here, too, an outsider story. Kyrgyz Ayka is trying to make cheap jobs in Moscow. A relentless look behind the scenes of a metropolis, of which we get to see in the post-Soviet era, actually, only glamorous images of billionaire oligarchs. But for most of the Russian society, even after the 1991 revolution, nothing has changed.
For another old master, Jean-Luc Godard, a special price was invented: the prize „Special Palme d’Or“ for his film „Le livre d ‚image“. A tribute to this 87-year-old great filmmaker and co-founder of the „Nouvelle Vague“, which at that time included Francois Truffaut, Claude Chabrol, Eric Rohmer, Alain Resnais and Jacques Rivette. The films of Godard, „Out of breath“, „The contempt“, Pierrot le Fou „and“ Prénom Carmen“ will be remembered forever.
The #TimesUp and #MeToo debate was also part of this festival. One night, jury president Cate Blanchett brought 80 women to the Red Carpet, all of them filmmakers, and reclaimed more women in the film industry and more women’s films in film festival competitions.
