Die Oscars 2025 – eine glitzernde Nacht mit einigen Überraschungen

Noch nie war es so spannend, wer welchen Preis bekommen würde
Angeblich sollen 1 Milliarde Menschen die 97. Oscar-Verleihung im Dolby-Theater in Hollywood gesehen haben. In Deutschland saßen ab 23.42 Uhr ca. 500.000 Zuschauer vor den Fernsehern, was einem Marktanteil von 14 Prozent bedeutete. Ab 1.00 Uhr waren es dann nur noch 300.000 Zuschauer. Wer am nächsten Tag zur Arbeit musste, konnte eben nicht so lange aufbleiben.
Ich selbst hatte mir die gesamte Show aufgezeichnet und am nächsten Tag in Ruhe angesehen.
Insgesamt hat mir die diesjährige Verleihung sehr gut gefallen.
Keine Skandale, keine Ohrfeigen auf der Bühne, keine peinlichen Dankesreden und ein einigermaßen witziger Moderator (CONAN O’BRIEN).

Politik
Im Gegensatz zur ersten TRUMP Präsidentschaft gab es dieses Mal nach seiner Wiederwahl während der Oscar-Verleihung nur wenige Stimmen des Protests zu hören, obwohl wesentlich mehr Gründe bestanden hätten
Dieser politische Showdown im Oval-Office am letzten Freitag mit dem Ukrainischen Präsident SELENSKY, Präsident TRUMP und Vizepräsident VANCE, ist wohl der unwürdigste Moment in der Geschichte der amerikanischen Politik gewesen.
Ob sich die Gemeinschaft der Kunstschaffenden nach der Wiederwahl von DONALD TRUMP noch in Schockstarre befindet oder viele einfach vor der Rache eines nachtragenden TRUMP Angst haben – ich kann es nicht sagen.
Die einzigen echten politischen Statements kamen von den Preisträgern des Besten Dokumentarfilms, vom palästinensischen Regisseur BASEL ADRA und dem israelischen Filmemacher YUVAL ABRAHAM, die für ihren Film „No Other Land“ über die Situation im Westjordanland (seit drei Jahrzehnten von Israel besetzt) bereits einen Silbernen Bären auf der Berlinale 2024 bekommen hatten und bei den Oscars 2025 eine ähnliche Dankesrede, wie in Berlin, hielten.
Doch während diese Rede (die Israel als Besatzer des Westjordanlandes brandmarkt) in Berlin noch einen Skandal auslöste und als antisemitisch bezeichnet wurde, gab es im Dolby-Theater großen Applaus.
Best Documentary „No Other Land“, Oscars 2025
Vom Moderator CONAN O’BRIEN kam bei der Erwähnung des Films „Anora“ (der Sohn eines russischen Oligarchen heiratet in Las Vegas eine Stripperin) nur ein kurzer Hinweis, dass die Amerikaner jetzt wohl ein starkes Russland lieben würden…

Und die Laudatorin für den besten Schnitt, DARYL HANNAH, fing ihre Rede mit „Slava Ukraini“ (Ruhm der Ukraine) an.
Das waren die wenigen Hinweise auf die politische Situation unserer Tage.
Die Preisträger
Der große Favorit mit 13 Nominierungen, „Emilia Perez“, wäre beinahe leer ausgegangen, nachdem Anfang des Jahres herauskam, dass die Hauptdarstellerin KARLA SOFIA GASCON früher mal rassistische Kommentare auf Social Media gepostet und sogar die Oscar-Verleihung verunglimpft hatte.
Dennoch wurde mein Lieblingsfilm des letzten Jahres „Emilia Perez“ (hier meine Rezension) mit genau dem Preis geehrt, den auch ich gegeben hätte:
ZOE SALDANA bekam den Oscar für die Beste Nebenrolle.
Sie ist einfach umwerfend gut in diesem Film, ich liebe sie!
Für diese schauspielerische Leistung hatte ZOE SALDANA dieses Jahr bereits bei den Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards, the British Academy Film Awards und the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Wow!

Später gab es noch einen weiteren Oscar für „Emilia Perez“, einen Academy Award für den besten Song: „El Mal“, gesungen von ZOE SALDANA und geschrieben von den französischen Songwritern CAMILLE und CLÉMENT DUCOL.
Der große Sieger des Abends aber war zweifellos „Anora“ (hier meine Rezension), der bereits in Cannes im letzten Jahr die Goldene Palme gewonnen hatte und nun mit fünf Oscars (Bester Film, Beste Regie für JEAN BAKER, Beste Hauptdarstellerin MICKEY MADISON, Bestes Originaldrehbuch SEAN BAKER und besten Schnitt SEAN BAKER) nach Hause gehen konnte.

Bester Hauptdarsteller wurde ADRIEN BRODY für seine Rolle in „Der Brutalist“,
Beste Filmmusik: DANIEL BLUMBERG ebenfalls für „Der Brutalist“.

Bester Internationaler Film wurde „I am Still Here“ von Walter Salles aus Brasilien über die frühere Diktatur in dem südamerikanischen Land.
Der deutsche Beitrag, „Die Saat des heiligen Feigenbaums“ (über die Situation der Frauen im Iran nach dem Tod 2022 der jungen Jina Mahsa Amini), obwohl sehr berührend, ging leer aus.
Zu erwähnen wäre noch die Laudatio von MICK JAGGER für den Besten Filmsong („El Mal“ in „Emilia Perez“), der mit 81 Jahren noch fit wie ein Turnschuh ist.

Schön fand ich auch, dass es beim Besten Kostümdesign (PAUL TAZEWELL für „Wicked“) mit LILY-ROSE DEPP, ELLE FANNING, JOHN LITHGOW, CONNIE NIELSEN und BOWEN YANG es gleich fünf Laudatoren gab, ebenso wie bei der Besten Kameraführung (LOL CRAWLEY für „The Brutalist“) mit ZOE SALDANA, ALBA ROHRWACHER, DAVE BAUTISTA, JOE ALWYN und WILLEM DAFOE.

Immer noch wunderschön anzusehen war PENÉLOPE CRUZ (wird dieses Jahr 51 Jahre alt) als Laudatorin für den Besten Internationalen Film („I am Still Here“).

Und natürlich viele alte und junge Stars in tollen Outfits.
So kam z.B. der Oscar nominierte TIMOTHÉE CHALAMAT (in einem gelben Anzug aus Leder von Givenchy) mit seiner derzeitigen Freundin KYLIE JENNER (in Miu Miu)

Anders als in den letzten Jahren wurde auf allzu viele Show-Acts verzichtet.
Doch einer stach heraus: Eine Tanz – und Musikeinlage zu drei JAMES BOND-Songs:
Die Sängerinnen LISA, DOJA CAT und RAYE interpretierten „Live and Let Die“ von PAUL MACCARTNEY, „Sky Fall“ von ADELE und „Diamants are Forever“ von Shirley Bassey.

Und meine neue Hollywood-Queen MARGRET QUALLEY war das neue „Bond-Girl“ als Tänzerin in einem knallroten Abendkleid zu sehen.

Dabei sollte noch erwähnt werden, dass der online Händler Amazon jetzt auch die Kontrolle über die James Bond-Filmreihe übernommen hat (nachdem Amazon vor drei Jahren bereits das Filmstudio MGM, wozu auch die Bond-Reihe gehört, gekauft hatte).
Wer allerdings der nächste James Bond Darsteller wird weiß bis jetzt noch keiner (oder wird noch geheim gehalten).
Alles in allem mal wieder ein berauschender Abend und ein Hoch auf die Filmindustrie und die Filmschaffenden.
So eine Show kann eben nur Hollywood.
Und zum Schluss noch einen Satz von ADRIEN BRODY:
„Leute, geht ins Kino. Es ist eines der schönsten Erlebnisse, die ihr haben könnt!“

The Oscars 2025 – a glittering night with a few surprises

It has never been so exciting to see who would receive which award
Supposedly 1 billion people watched the 97th Academy Awards at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
In Germany, around 500,000 viewers were sitting in front of their televisions from 11:42 p.m., which meant a market share of 14 percent.
From 1 a.m., there were only 300,000 viewers.
Those who had to work the next day simply couldn’t stay up that late.
I recorded the entire show myself and watched it at my leisure the next day.
All in all, I really enjoyed this year’s awards ceremony.
No scandals, no slaps on stage, no embarrassing acceptance speeches and a reasonably funny presenter (CONAN O’BRIEN).

Politics
In contrast to the first TRUMP presidency, this time there were only a few voices of protest during the Oscars after his re-election, although there were far more reasons.
This political showdown in the Oval Office last Friday with Ukrainian President SELENSKY, President TRUMP and Vice President VANCE was probably the most undignified moment in the history of American politics.
I cannot say whether the arts community is still in a state of shock after the re-election of DONALD TRUMP or whether many are simply afraid of the revenge of a resentful TRUMP.
The only political statements came from the winners of the Best Documentary Film, the Palestinian director BASEL ADRA and the Israeli filmmaker YUVAL ABRAHAM, who had already received a Silver Bear at the Berlinale 2024 for their film „No Other Land“ about the situation in the West Bank (occupied by Israel for three decades) and gave a similar acceptance speech at the Oscars 2025 as in Berlin.

But while this speech (which brands Israel as the occupier of the West Bank) caused a scandal in Berlin and was described as anti-Semitic, there was only positive applause in the Dolby Theater.
When the presenter CONAN O’BRIEN mentioned the film “Anora” (the son of a Russian oligarch marries a stripper in Las Vegas), he only briefly mentioned that Americans would now love a strong Russia…

And the presenter for the best editing, DARYL HANNAH, began her speech with “Slava Ukraini” (Glory to Ukraine).
Those were the few references to the political situation of our day.
The award winners
The big favorite with 13 nominations, „Emilia Perez“, almost went home empty-handed after it came out earlier this year that the lead actress KARLA SOFIA GASCON had previously posted racist comments on social media and even denigrated the Oscar ceremony.
Nevertheless, my favorite film of last year, „Emilia Perez“ (here is my review), was honored with exactly the award that I would have given:
ZOE SALDANA (in Yves Saint-Laurent) received the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

She is simply stunning in this movie, I love her!
For this acting performance, ZOE SALDANA has already won awards at the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards, the British Academy Film Awards and the Screen Actors Guild Awards this year. Wow!
Later, there was another Oscar for „Emilia Perez,“ an Academy Award for Best Song: „El Mal,“ sung by ZOE SALDANA, written by French songwriters CAMILLE and CLÉMENT DUCOL.
The big winner of the evening, however, was undoubtedly „Anora“ (here is my review), which had already won the Golden Palm in Cannes last year and was now able to go home with five Oscars (Best Film, Best Director for JEAN BAKER, Best Actress MICKEY MADISON, Best Original Screenplay SEAN BAKER and Best Editing SEAN BAKER).

Best Actor went to ADRIEN BRODY for his role in „The Brutalist“.
Best Film Music went to DANIEL BLUMBERG for „The Brutalist“.

Best International Film went to „I am still here“ by Walter Salles from Brazil about the former dictatorship in the South American country.
The German entry „The Seed of the Sacred Fig Tree“ (about the situation of women in Iran after the death of the young Jina Mahsa Amini in 2022), although very touching, went home empty-handed.
Also worth mentioning is the laudation by MICK JAGGER for the Best Film Song („El Mal“ in „Emilia Perez“), who is still as fit as a fiddle at the age of 81.

I also thought it was nice that there were five laudators for the Best Costume Design (PAUL TAZEWELL for „Wicked“) with LILY-ROSE DEPP, ELLE FANNING, JOHN LITHGOW, CONNIE NIELSEN and BOWEN YANG, as well as for the Best Cinematography (LOL CRAWLEY for „The Brutalist“) with ZOE SALDANA, ALBA ROHRWACHER, DAVE BAUTISTA, JOE ALWYN and WILLEM DAFOE.

PENÉLOPE CRUZ (who turns 51 this year) was still wonderful to watch as the laudator for the International Film.

And of course many old and new stars in great outfits.
For example, Oscar-nominated TIMOTHÉE CHALAMAT (in a yellow leather suit by Givenchy) came with his current girlfriend KYLIE JENNER (in Miu Miu).

Unlike in recent years, there were not too many show acts.
But one stood out: a dance and music performance to three JAMES BOND songs:
The singers LISA, DOJA CAT and RAYE interpreted “Live and Let Die” by PAUL MACCARTNEY, “Sky Fall” by ADELE and “Diamonds are Forever” by Shirley Bassey.

And my new Hollywood queen MARGRET QUALLEY was the new “Bond girl” as a dancer in a bright red evening dress.

It should also be mentioned that the online retailer Amazon has now also taken control of the James Bond film series (after Amazon had already bought the film studio MGM, which owns Bond, three years ago).
However, no one knows yet who the next James Bond actor will be (or it is still being kept secret).
All in all, another exhilarating evening and a toast to the film industry and filmmakers.
Only Hollywood can put on a show like this.
And finally, a sentence from ADRIEN BRODY:
“Hey guys, go to the cinema. It is one of the most wonderful experiences you can have!”
