„I, TONYA“ – Drama – USA – 2017

Das böse, hässliche Entlein und der schöne Schwan – ist kurz gefasst das Grundthema der wahren Geschichte, welche sich 1994 in der amerikanischen Eiskunstlaufszene ereignet hat. Zu den besten Eiskunstläuferinnen einer Generation in den USA gehörten damals zwei Sportlerinnen, die von ihrer persönlichen Art und Herkunft nicht unterschiedlicher hätten sein können. Einmal die hübsche, adrette Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver) und die aus einfachsten Verhältnissen stammende, ruppige Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie). Während die erste durch Eleganz und Anmut herausstach, konnte Tonya Harding durch ihre Sportlichkeit überzeugen. Seit ihrer Kindheit wurde sie getrieben von einer überehrgeizigen Mutter (brillant gespielt von Allison Janney). So ist Tonya Harding bis heute eine der wenigen, die den dreifachen Axel springen konnte. Als die Olympischen Spiele im Jahre 1994 näher rückten spitzte sich auch der Kampf zwischen den beiden Protagonistinnen zu – bis eines Tages der Ehemann von Tonya Harding, Jeff (Sebastian Stan), auf die Idee kam, der Konkurrentin Nancy Kerrigan mit einer Eisenstange die Beine zu zertrümmern. Zum Glück konnte sich Kerrigan nach der Attacke schnell erholen und gewann die Silbermedaille bei den Olympischen Spielen. Tonya Harding erreichte nur den 8. Platz. Auch wenn damals in den anschließenden Gerichtsverhandlungen nie bewiesen werden konnte, dass Harding daran beteiligt gewesen wäre, so wurde sie doch lebenslang vom Eiskunstlauf Sportverband suspendiert. Regisseur Craig Gillespie lässt hier im Film ein weiteres Filmteam einen Dokumentarfilm drehen, womit die Geschichte zusätzlich Spannung bekommt. Und die Darstellerin der Tonya, Margot Robbie (*1990), die wir als nackte Schönheit aus „The Wolf of Wallstreet“ kennen, gibt hier eine Glanzleistung ab. Dafür gab es dann auch eine Golden Globe und eine Oscar Nominierung.

„THELMA“ – Mystery-Thriller, Nor, FR,Den,Swe – 2017
Regie: Joachim Trier (*1974, nicht zu verwechseln mit dem dänischen Regisseur Lars von Trier, mit dem er aber verwandt ist)
Cast: Eili Harboe, Kaya Wilkins, Henrik Rafaelsen

Der norwegische Regisseur Joachim Trier ist bisher nur wenigen bekannt, dabei lief sein bisher erfolgreichster Film, „Oslo, 31. August“, bei den Filmfestspielen in Cannes, bei dem Toronto Filmfest und beim Sundance Filmfest 2011. Triers Spezialität sind beklemmende Situationen. „Thelma“ ist erst sein vierter Langfilm, dafür aber ein kleines Juwel.
Thelma (toll gespielt von Eili Harboe) ist eine junge Frau, die aus einem streng religiösen Elternhaus aus der Provinz zum Studieren in die Hauptstadt Oslo geht. Dort lernt sie die Kommilitonin Anja kennen, zu der sie sich bald auch sexuell hingezogen fühlt. Gleichzeitig passieren immer mehr seltsame Dinge in ihrem Umfeld, welche dazu führen, dass Thelma in einer Klinik untersuchen werden soll. Doch der Aufenthalt dort macht es nur noch schlimmer. Hat es vielleicht mit einer Szene zu tun, die der Zuschauer gleich am Anfang sieht? In dieser sieht man ihren Vater während einer Jagd nicht nur auf Enten, sondern auch auf seine eigene Tochter zielen…

The evil, ugly duck and the beautiful swan – is the basic theme of a true story that occurred in 1994 in the American figure skating scene. At that time, two female athletes, who could not have been more different from their personal nature and origin, were among the best figure skaters of a generation. Once the pretty, neat Nancy Kerrigan (Caitlin Carver) and the simplest, rough Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie). While the first stood out with elegance and grace, could convince Tonya Harding by their sportiness.
