Gestern Abend eröffneten die 71. Internationalen Filmfestspiele von Cannes
Wie immer mit viel Eleganz auf dem Roten Teppich wurden die wichtigsten Filmfestspiele des Jahres eingeläutet. Jury Präsidentin ist dieses Jahr die australische Schauspielerin Cate Blanchett. Ihr zur seite stehen ebenfalls bekannte Namen, wie z.B. die US-amerikanische Schauspielerin Kristen Stewart („Twilight“) oder die Französin Léa Seydoux (*1985, Goldene Palme in Cannes 2011 für ihre Rolle in „Blau ist eine warme Farbe“; spielte 2015 im „James Bond: Spectre“).
Die Eröffnung
Jury Präsidentin Cate Blanchett erklärte zusammen mit dem berühmten amerikanischen Regisseur Martin Scorsese (Oscar für „Departed“ 2007) am Abend die Filmfestspiele für eröffnet. Nach der großen Zeremonie im Grand Théatre Lumière (2.300 Sitzplätze) wurde der Film „Todos Lo Saben“ („Everybody knows“) des iranischen Regisseurs Asghar Farhadi gezeigt, in den Hauptrollen mit den beiden spanischen Superstars Penelopez Cruz (*1974) und Javier Bardem (*1969), die im richtigen Leben ein Ehepaar sind. Seit ihrer Heirat mit Javier Bardem 2010 und der Geburt ihrer beiden Kinder 2011 und 2013 ist Penélopez Cruz sogar noch schöner geworden. Nach den vielen Affären, hauptsächlich mit ihren Filmpartnern, wie Tom Cruise („Vanilla Sky“) oder Matthew McConaughey („Sahara“), scheint sie einen sicheren Hafen gefunden zu haben. Penélope Cruz, aus eher einfachen Verhältnissen kommend, hatte viele Jahre klassisches Ballett gelernt und durch einen Talentwettbewerb mit 15 Jahren den Sprung zum Film und Fernsehen geschafft. Der erste große Erfolg kam 1992 mit dem spanischen Film „Lust auf Fleisch“, bei der sie süß und sexy sein durfte und alle Männerherzen gewann. Mittlerweile hat sie in 60 internationalen Filme mitgewirkt, 2009 gewann sie als erste Spanierin den Oscar für ihre Rolle im Film „Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona“ von Woody Allen.

Cannes
Die Stadt Cannes platzt aus allen Nähten. Jedes Hotel ist bis auf das letzte Zimmer mit Schauspielern, Regisseuren, Produktionsfirmen, PR-Agenturen und Journalisten gefüllt. Die Filmfestspiele in Cannes haben gegenüber der Berlinale den Vorteil, dass sie im wunderschönen Monat Mai über die Bühne gehen, einem Monat, wo der Frühling erwacht, Sträucher und Bäume in voller Blüte stehen und über der ganzen Cote d’Azur ein wundervoller Duft schwebt. Die Parfum Stadt Grasse ist ja nur wenige Kilometer von Cannes entfernt. Alle Menschen sind gut drauf, die Sonne lacht und sommerliche Kleidung und fröhliches Gemüt beherrschen die Croisette, die prachtvolle Strandpromenade von Cannes.
Wettbewerb
21 Filme kämpfen um die Goldene Palme.
Mit großer Spannung werden dabei folgende Filme erwartet:
„Todos Lo Saben (Everybody knows)“ von Asghar Farhadi (*1972, Goldener Bär und Oscar 2011 für „Nadir und Simin“ und Oscar 2017 für „The Salesman“) mit Penélope Cruz und Javier Bardem. Die Geschichte: Laura (Penelopez Cruz) reist mit ihren Kindern von Buenos Aires in ihre alte Heimat, ein Weingut in Spanien, um der Hochzeit ihrer Schwester beizuwohnen. Dabei kommen alte Familiengeschichten zu Tage, die lieber hätten unentdeckt bleiben sollen
„Le livre d’ image (The Image Book)“ von Altmeister Jean-Luc Godard (Goldener Bär 1965 „Alphaville“ bei der Berlinale)
„Blackkklansman“ von Spike Lee, den ich bereits bei den Filmfestspielen 1989 in Cannes für die deutsche Zeitschrift CINEMA interviewte. Sein Film handelt von dem afro-amerikanischen Police officer Ron, der es schafft, sich in die Organisation des Ku Klux Klan als Undercover Agent einzuschleusen. Hauptdarsteller ist John David Washington, Sohn von Denzel Washington
„3 Faces“ des iranischen Filmemachers Jafar Panahi (Goldener Löwe in Venedig 2000 und Goldener Bär in Berlin 2015 für „Taxi Teheran“). In seinem neuen Film zeigt er eine Frau, die einem Hilfeschrei eines kleinen Mädchens folgt, welches sie in einem Video gesehen hatte.
„Un couteau dans le coeur (Knife + Heart)“ von Yann Gonzalez. Im Porno Milieu im Paris von 1979 geschieht ein Mord. Hauptdarstellerin ist Vanessa Paradis (*1972), ein französischer Chanson Star der 80er und 90er Jahre („Joe le Taxi“), welche auch vielbeachtete Hauptdarstellerin in Filmen war. 1990 bekam sie den franz. „César“ für den Film „Weiße Hochzeit“. In Cannes ist sie ein alter Hase. Legendär ihr gemeinsamer (und spontaner) Auftritt mit Jeanne Moreau 1995 auf der Bühne des Festival Palais, bei der beide im Duett „Le Tourbillon de la Vie“ sangen. 2016 war sie Jurymitglied in Cannes. Von 1998 begann sie eine leidenschaftliche Affäre mit Johnny Depp, von dem sie zwei Kinder hat. Die Liaison endete 2012. Tochter Lily-Rose (*1999) ist mittlerweile das Gesicht von Chanel Beauty.
„Burning“ vom südkoreanischen Regisseur und Drehbuchautoren Lee Chang-dong. Eine junge Frau bringt eines Tages einen Fremden von einer Reise mit nach Hause. Und der hat ein ungewöhnliches Hobby…Lee Chong-Dong gewann den Regiepreis in Cannes 2010. Mit seinem Film „Oasis“ hatte er bereits 2002 den Marcello-Mastroianni Preis in Venedig gewonnen, 2007 war er mit „Secret Sunshine“ in Cannes, seine Hauptdarstellerin Jeon Do-Yeon gewann dabei den Darstellerpreis.

Außer Konkurrenz
Sicher ebenfalls interessant, wenn gleich auch außer Konkurrenz, sind folgende Filme:
„The Man who killed Don Quixotte“ von Terry Gilliam mit Jonathan Pryce als Don Quixotte.
Der neue STAR WARS Film „SOLO“ von Ron Howard mit Alden Ehrenreich als junger Han Solo, Emilia Clarke (“Games of Thrones“) als Qi’Ra und Woody Harrelson als Tobias Beckett.
„The House that Jack built“ von Lars von Trier („Nymphomaniac“) mit Mat Dillon, Uma Thurman und Bruno Ganz. Der Film handelt von einem Serienkiller, der jeden Mord wie ein Kunstwerk aussehen lässt. Ihm fehlt aber noch sein Meisterstück…Lars von Trier war mehrere Jahre von den Filmfestspielen verbannt worden, weil er 2012 auf einer Pressekonferenz anklingen ließ, er wäre ein Anhänger Hitlers. Selbst wenn dies ironisch gemeint war, so fanden es die Verantwortlichen von Cannes gar nicht komisch. Die Aufregung scheint sich aber gelegt zu haben.
„Pope Francis – A Man of his Word“, ein Dokumentarfilm von Wim Wenders über den jetztigen Pabst Franziskus. Wim Wenders hat eine sehr lange Geschichte mit den Filmfstspielen in Cannes. 1984 gewann er hier die Goldene Palme für seinen Film „Paris Texas“, 2 Jahre später den Regiepreis für „Himmel über Berlin“. 1989 war Jury Präsident in Cannes.
Am Samstag, den 19. Mai, enden die 71. Filmfestspiele von Cannes mit der Vergabe der Preise.

Last night opened the 71st International Cannes Film Festival
As always, the most important film festival of the year was declared open with much elegance on the red carpet. Jury president is Australian actress Cate Blanchett this year. At her side are also wellknown names, such as US actress Kristen Stewart („Twilight“) or French actress Léa Seydoux (* 1985, Palme d’Or at Cannes 2011 for her role in „Blue is a Warm Color“, starred in 2015 in „James Bond: Spectre“).
The opening
Jury President Cate Blanchett and the famous American director Martin Scorsese announced the opening of the film festival in the evening. After the grand opening ceremony at the Grand Théatre Lumière (2,300 seats), the film „Todos Lo Saben“ by Iranian director Asghar Farhadi was shown, starring Spanish superstars Penelopez Cruz (* 1974) and Javier Bardem (* 1969), who are a married couple in real life. Since her marriage to Javier Bardem in 2010 and the birth of her two children in 2011 and 2013, Penélopez Cruz has become even more beautiful. After the many affairs, mainly with her film partners, such as Tom Cruise („Vanilla Sky“) or Matthew McConaughey („Sahara“), she seems to have found a safe haven. Penélope Cruz, coming from rather simple backgrounds, had learned classical ballet for many years and made the leap to film and television through a talent competition at the age of fifteen. The first great success came in 1992 with the Spanish film „Lust auf Fleisch“, where she was allowed to be sweet and sexy and won all men’s hearts. In the meantime, she has appeared in 60 international films. In 2009, she became the first Spaniard to win the Oscar for her role in the film „Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona“ by Woody Allen.
Cannes
The city of Cannes is bursting at the seams. Each hotel is filled to the last room with actors, directors, production companies, PR agencies and journalists. The Cannes Film Festival has the advantage over the Berlinale of going on stage in the beautiful month of May, a month when spring awakens, shrubs and trees are in full bloom, and a wonderful scent is floating all over the Cote d’Azur. The perfume town of Grasse is only a few kilometers from Cannes. Everyone is in a good mood, the sun is shining and summery clothes and cheerful spirits dominate the Croisette, the beautiful beach promenade of Cannes.
Competition
21 films are fighting for the Golden Palm.
The following films are expected with great excitement:
„Todos Lo Saben (Everybody knows)“ by Asghar Farhadi (* 1972, Golden Bear and Oscar 2011 for „Nadir and Simin“ and Oscar 2017 for „The Salesman“) with Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem. The story: Laura (Penelopez Cruz) travels with her children from Buenos Aires to her old home, a winery in Spain, to attend her sister’s wedding. And he has an unusual hobby … Lee Chong-Dong won the director’s prize in Cannes 2010. But he still lacks his masterpiece … Lars von Trier was banished from the film festival for several years because he hinted at a press conference in 2012 that he was a supporter of Hitler. Even if it was ironic, Cannes officials did not find it funny. The excitement seems to have subsided.
„Pope Francis – A Man of His Word,“ a documentary by Wim Wenders on the current Pope Francis. Wim Wenders has a very long history with the Cannes Film Festivals. In 1984 he won the Golden Palm for his film „Paris Texas“, 2 years later the director award for „Himmel über Berlin“. In 1989, the jury was president in Cannes.
On Saturday, May 19, the 71st Cannes Film Festival will end with the awarding of prizes.
