Am Sonntag Abend fanden die berühmten MTV Video Music Award’s in Inglewood/ Kalifornien statt.
Der Ort ist ein Stadtteil von Los Angeles ganz in der Nähe des Los Angeles Airport mit einer hohen Rate an Afroamerikanern (43%) und Hispanos (50%). Bekannt ist der Ort hauptsächlich durch sein riesiges „THE FORUM“, das ehemalige Stadium der Los Angeles Lakers. Hier fand auch die Preisverleihung statt.
Musikalisch war die diesjährige Verleihung eher schwach. Die prämierten Songs waren nur teilweise wirkliche Hits, die Videos zeigten nicht wirklich Neues. Auch das groß angekündigte Video von Taylor Swift „Look what you made me do“, welches als Video Premiere vorgesehen war (dabei war es bereits 3 Tage vorher auf Youtube veröffentlicht worden) ist keine Erleuchtung. Vielleicht ganz witzig ihre Darstellung eigener früherer Auftritte als Parodie. Oder ist es doch ernst gemeint? Persönlich war sie nicht anwesend, offensichtlich gibt es immer noch Stress zwischen ihr und Katy Perry. Und Kanye West ist auch nicht gut auf sie zu sprechen. Dieser konnte übrigens einen Preis für die beste Choreography für sein Video zu „Fade“ abräumen, Taylor Swift gewann dieses Mal in keiner einzigen Kategorie…

Katy Perry als Moderatorin war gerade noch so „okay“. Dafür, dass sie schon so viele Auftritte in ihrem Leben gehabt hat war sie sichtlich nervös. Auch der ständige Wechsel ihrer Outfits machte den Gesamteindruck nicht besser.
Die Highlights kamen dieses Mal von anderer Seite. Die Pop-Sängerin Kesha und Michael Jacksons Tochter Paris sprachen sich gegen Rassismus und Diskriminierung aus.

Gänsehaut kam auf, als von Jared Leto ein Nachruf auf den kürzlich verstorbenen Linkin Park Sänger Chester Bennington gesprochen wurde. Dieser hatte Selbstmord begannen wie so manche Stars im Showbusiness. Nach Ende seiner Rede füllte sich die Bühne und an die 20 bis 30 Menschen erschienen, welche alle schon einmal einen Selbstmordversuch überlebt haben. Auf ihren Teeshirts stand in großen Lettern die Nummer des Nothilferufs, den jeder in einer solchen Ausnahmesituation anrufen kann. Die Nummer wurde ebenfalls auf die Leinwand im Hintergrund projiziert – eine tolle Aktion!

Die wichtigsten Preise gingen an den Rapper Kendrick Lamar für sein Video „Humble“ (Video of the Year) und an Ed Sheeran als Artist of the Year.
Auch wenn der Musiksender MTV im Prinzip tot ist sind seine Video Music Award‘s immer noch Großereignisse der Branche. Neben den Grammys sicher die wichtigsten Anerkennungen für Musiker. Und natürlich immer eine Gelegenheit sich auf dem Roten Teppich sehen zu lassen.

On Sunday evening the famous MTV Video Music Awards were held in Inglewood, California. The place is a suburb of Los Angeles very close to Los Angeles Airport with a high rate of African Americans (43%) and Hispanos (50%).
The place is known for its huge „THE FORUM“, the former stage of the Los Angeles Lakers. Here took place also the award ceremony.
Musically this year’s presentation was rather weak. The winning songs were not exciting, the videos did not show really new. The Taylor Swift video „Look what you made me do“, which was planned as a video premiere (it was already released on Youtube 3 days before), is not an enlightenment. Perhaps quite funny their depiction of their own previous appearances as parody. Or is it serious? Personally she was not present, obviously there are still problems between her and Katy Perry. And Kanye West is also not good at talking to her. By the way, Kanye West got the prize for the best choreography for his video „Fade“, Taylor Swift won this time in no single category …
Katy Perry as a presenter was just so „okay“. For the fact that she had already had so many performances in her life, she was visibly nervous. Even the constant change of her outfits did not improve the overall impression.
The highlights came this time from another side. The pop singer Kesha and Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris spoke out against racism and discrimination.
Creeps came when Jared Leto heard an obituary to the late-deceased Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington. He had started suicide like so many stars in the showbusiness. After the end of his speech, the stage was filled by 20 to 30 people, all of whom have already survived a suicide attempt. On their teeshirts, in large letters, was the number of the emergency call, which everyone can call in such an exceptional situation. The number was also projected onto the screen in the background – a great action!
The most important prizes went to rapper Kendrick Lamar for his video „Humble“ (Video of the Year) and to Ed Sheeran as Artist of the Year.
Even if the music transmitter MTV is basically dead, his Video Music Awards are still major events of the industry. Besides the Grammys certainly the most important recognitions for musicians. And, of course, always have an opportunity to be on the „red carpet“.
