Die 72. Filmfestspiele von Berlin kommen dieses Jahr auf sieben Tage verkürzt mit 260 Filmen.
Leider muss auch dieses Jahr die Berlinale auf Grund der Corona-Pandemie wieder eingeschränkt laufen.
So entschied die Festivalleitung die diesjährigen 72. Internationalen Filmfestspiele von Berlin auf sieben Tage zu verkürzen.
Von Donnerstag, den 10. Februar, bis einschließlich Mittwoch, den 16. Februar 2022.
Die Zahl der gezeigten Filme wurde auf 260 reduziert (in anderen Jahren vor Corona waren es fast 400).
Den Jury Vorsitz hat dieses Jahr der US-amerikanische Regisseur mit indischen Wurzeln, M. Night Shyamalan („The Sixth Sense“, 1999, Oscar für beste Regie).
Den Goldenen Bären für ihr Lebenswerk bekommt dieses Jahr die französische Schauspielerin Isabelle Huppert.

Ticket Kauf
Wie immer bei der Berlinale gilt, dass neben den Journalisten auch das Berliner Publikum sich die Filme ansehen kann, zu buchen drei Tage im Voraus, jeweils ab 10.00 Uhr – dieses Mal nur online.
Wie reserviere ich Karten?
Ihr müsst auf die Berlinale-Seite im Internet gehen und Euch dort in den Programmen (Links auf „Sektionen“ klicken, dann die Kategorie auswählen und auf „Filtern“ klicken) einen Film aussuchen und auf den Ticket-Button klicken.
Ihr landet dann bei dem Berlinale-Partner Eventim, bei dem Ihr ein Konto einrichten müsst und dann per Kreditkarte bezahlen könnt.
Max. 2 Tickets pro Person. Es gilt die 2G+ Corona-Hygieneregel.
Preise: 16 Euro für Wettbewerbsfilme im Festival-Palais am Marlene-Dietrich-Platz und für die Berlinale Special Gala Filme im Friedrichstadt-Palast, für alle anderen 13 Euro.
Da die Kinosäle wegen Corona nur zu 50% belegt werden können gibt es nach dem Festival vom 17. – 20. Februar eine Wiederholung aller Filme, deren Tickets dann auch nur noch 10 Euro kosten.

Die Sektionen
Neben dem Wettbewerb gibt es viele weitere Sektionen wie Berlinale Special, Encounters, Panorama, Forum, Berlinale Series, Berlinale Classics, Generationen und Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
Auch Berlinale goes Kiez mit Filmvorführungen in kleinen Kinosälen der verschiedenen Berliner Bezirken gibt es wieder.
Ein Highlight dabei:
Das TITANIA Kino in Steglitz, indem die allererste Berlinale 1951 stattfand. Unbedingt hingehen! Ein alter Kinopalast aus dem Jahr 1928 (siehe Foto in der Bilderserie).
Wettbewerb
Hier meine persönliche Auswahl der vielleicht interessantesten Filme im Wettbewerb:

Eröffnungsfilm: „PETER VON KANT“ (FR) von François Ozon mit Denis Ménochet, Isabelle Adjani, Hanna Schygulla.
Frei nach dem Film „Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant“ von Rainer Werner Fassbinder aus dem Jahr 1972 in einer Neuauflage über einen schwulen Regisseur, der von seinem jungen Liebhaber verlassen wird.
– „A E I O U – Das schnelle Alphabet der Liebe“ (DE) von Nicolette Krebitz mit Sophie Rois, Milan Herns, Nicolas Bridet und Udo Kier.
Die Beziehung einer 60-jährigen Lehrerin zu ihrem 17-jährigen Schüler.
– „AVEC AMOUR ET ACHARNEMENT“ (Both Sides of the Blade) (FR) von Claire Denis mit Juliette Binoche, Vincent Lindon, Grégoire Colin, Bulle Ogier.
Eine Frau verliebt sich wieder erneut in ihren Ex-Mann, den sie vor Jahren aus Liebe zu dessen bestem Freund verlassen hatte.
– CALL JANE (USA) von Phyllis Nagy mit Elizabeth Banks, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Mara.
Joy wird noch einmal spät in ihrem Leben ungewollt schwanger. Doch in den 6oer Jahren in den USA ist ein Abbruch unmöglich. Dann lernt sie eine Underground Frauengruppe kennen.
– „DRII WINTER“ (A Piece of Sky) (Swiss/ DE) von Michael Koch.
Von einer Liebe in den Schweizer Alpen – sinnlich, wie das Fell der Kühe.
– „LEONORA ADDIO“ (IT) von Paolo Taviani. Nach dem Tod seines Bruders Vittorio dreht Paolo Taviani jetzt seine Filme alleine.
Hier erzählt er die Geschichte des italienischen Autoren Pirandello bis zu der Zeit nach dem 2. Weltkrieg – von Mussolini bis zum Neorealismus.
– „LES PASSAGERS DE LA NUIT“ (The Passengers of the Night) (FR) von Mikhaël Hers mit Charlotte Gainsbourg, Emmanuelle Béart.
Am Tag der Wahl von Francois Mitterrand im Mai 1981 zum ersten sozialistischen Präsidenten von Frankreich wird das Leben von Elisabeth (Charlotte Gainsburg) über den Haufen geworfen. Sie plant ihren Mann zu verlassen und ein neues Leben zusammen mit ihren Kindern zu beginnen.
– „RABIYE KURNAZ GEGEN GEORGE W. BUSH“ (FR/ DE) von Andreas Dresen.
Nach einer wahren Geschichte: der Deutsche Murat Kurbasz wird kurz nach den Anschlägen des 11. September 2001 gefangen genommen und ins berüchtigte Gefägnis Guantanamo auf Kuba gebracht. Seine Mutter Rabiye, eine einfache türkische Hausfrau, zieht deshalb bis vor den Supreme Court in Washington. Nach 5 Jahren kommt Murat endlich frei.

„TAURUS“ (USA) von Tim Sutton mit Machine Gun Kelly und Megan Fox über den aufstrebenden Rapper Cole (Machine Gun Kelly) der das Leben in vollen Zügen genießt.
„BRAINWASHED: SEX-CAMERA-POWER“ (USA) von Nina Menkes mit July Dash, Rosanne Arquette über die Diskriminierung von Frauen in der Sex-Industrie.
Forum mit 36 Filmen aus 20 Ländern
„L’ÉTAT ET MOI“ (DE) von Max Linz mit Sophie Rois, Jeremy Mockridge über den (frei erfundenen) deutschen Komponisten Hans List, der 1971 auf den Barrikaden der Pariser Kommune kämpft.
Weitere außergewöhnliche Vorführräume:
das Silent Green Kulturquartier, die Botschaft von Kanada, die SAVVY Contemporary Galerie, sowie erstmals das Zeiss-Großplanetarium.

Preview BERLINALE 2022

The 72nd Berlin Film Festival will be shortened to seven days this year with 260 films.
Unfortunately, the Berlinale has to run again with restrictions this year due to the corona pandemic.
The festival management therefore decided to shorten this year’s 72nd Berlin International Film Festival to seven days.
From Thursday, February 10th, up to and including Wednesday, February 16th, 2022.
The number of movies shown was reduced to 260 (in other years before Corona it was almost 400).
The jury is chaired this year by the American director with Indian roots, M. Night Shyamalan („The Sixth Sense“, 1999, Oscar for best director).
French actress Isabelle Huppert will receive the Golden Bear for her life’s work this year.
Many movies are coming from France.

Ticket purchase
As always at the Berlinale, not only journalists but also the Berlin public can watch the movies, which can be booked three days in advance, starting every day at 10 a.m.
How do I reserve tickets?
You have to go to the Berlinale site on the internet and there in the programs, click on „Sections“, then select the category (like Competition, Forum, Panorama et.c.), then click on „Filter“ and choose a movie and click on the ticket button.
You will then end up at the Berlinale partner Eventim, where you have to set up an account and then pay by credit card.
Max. 2 tickets per person. The 2G+ Corona hygiene rule applies.
Prices: 16 euros for competition films in the Festival Palais on Marlene-Dietrich-Platz and for the Berlinale Special Gala films in the Friedrichstadt-Palast, for all others 13 euros. Since the cinemas can only be occupied to 50% due to Corona, there will be a repetition of all films after the festival from February 17th to 20th, the tickets for which then only cost 10 euros.

The Sections
In addition to the movies in the Competition, there are many more in the Berlinale Special, Encounters, Panorama, Forum, Berlinale Series, Berlinale Classics, Generations and Perspektive Deutsches Kino sections.
There will also be the „Berlinale goes Kiez“ with movie screenings in small cinemas in the various districts of Berlin.
A highlight: The TITANIA cinema in Steglitz, where the very first Berlinale took place in 1951. Be sure to go! An old cinema palace from 1928.

Here my personal recommendations of perhaps the best movies in the competition:

Opening film: „PETER VON KANT“ (FR) by François Ozon with Denis Ménochet, Isabelle Adjani, Hanna Schygulla – Opening film! Loosely based on the 1972 film „The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant“ by Rainer Werner Fassbinder in a new edition about a gay director who is abandoned by his young lover.
– „A E I O U – The Fast Alphabet of Love“ (DE) by Nicolette Krebitz with Sophie Rois, Milan Herns, Nicolas Bridet and Udo Kier. A 60-year-old teacher’s relationship with her 17-year-old student.
– „AVEC AMOUR ET ACHARNEMENT“ (Both Sides of the Blade) (FR) by Claire Denis
with Juliette Binoche, Vincent Lindon, Grégoire Colin, Bulle Ogier. A woman falls in love all over again with her ex, whom she left years ago in love with his best friend.
– CALL JANE (USA) by Phyllis Nagy with Elizabeth Banks, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Mara. Joy becomes pregnant again late in her life. But in the USA in the 1960s, demolition is impossible. Then she meets an underground women’s group.
– „DRII WINTER“ (A Piece of Sky) (Swiss/ DE) by Michael Koch. From a love in the Swiss Alps – sensual, like the fur of the cows.
– „LEONORA ADDIO“ (IT) by Paolo Taviani. After the death of his brother Vittorio, Paolo Taviani now shoots his films alone. Here he tells the story of the Italian author Pirandello up to the time after World War II in Italy – from Mussolini to Neorealism.

On the day Francois Mitterrand was elected France’s first socialist president in 1981, the life of Elisabeth (Charlotte Gainsburg) was thrown overboard. She plans to leave her husband and start a new life with her children.
– „RABIYE KURNAZ AGAINST GEORGE W. BUSH“ (FR/ DE) by Andreas Dresen. Based on a true story: the German Murat Kurbasz is captured shortly after the September 11, 2001 attacks and taken to the notorious Guantanamo prison in Cuba. His mother Rabiye, a simple Turkish housewife, therefore appeals to the Supreme Court in Washington. After 5 years, Murat is finally free.
