Oper

Staatsoper Unter den Linden

22.03.2020. Premiere von „IDOMENEO“ von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Musikalische Leitung: Simon Rattle, Inszenierung: David McVicar.

Komische Oper

29.03.2020. Premiere von „SCHWANDA, DER DUDELSACKPFEIFER“ im Rahmen des Jeromir Weinberger Festivals. Eine spätromantische Musiktheaterkomödie.
Musikalische Leitung: Ainars Rubikis, Inszenierung: Andreas Homoki. Mit Daniel Schmutzhard, Sara Jakubiak, Ursula Hesse von den Steinen.

Ballett

Staatsballett Berlin

Regie: Jette Steckel. Mit Maren Eggert als „Maggie“. Das könnte spannend werden!

Berliner Ensemble

28.03.2020. Premiere von „FABIAN ODER DER GANG VOR DIE HUNDE“ von Erich Kästner. Regie: Frank Castorf. Mit Sina Martens u.a.

13.03.2020. Premiere von „ULTRA – EINE MASSNAHME“ von Cesconetto, Jung, Katzer, Thomasberger, Witt, Wray (HfS Ultras). In Kooperation mit der Ernst-Busch Schauspielschule.
Die Volksbühne schreibt dazu auf ihrer Homepage: „We sell our bodies, we sell our souls, we sell our gender. Very very cheap. 6 world premieres, 6 directors, 3 venues. Ultra is the beyond. We know the offside rules. Our nymph swims in the Landwehrkanal and goes by the name of Rosa. We’re united in solidarity, convince us otherwise. What is the riverbed like? It’s red. We don’t make it through customs. Our luggage is fished out, but they don’t have anything on us. Let us through. This oddly diverse group of women agrees to its task.“

Kunst

Museum Barberini „MONET.ORTE“ vom 22.02. – 01.06.2020

Opera
State Opera Unter den Linden
03/22/2020. Premiere of „IDOMENEO“ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Musical direction: Simon Rattle, production: David McVicar. With Magdalena Kozena, Anna Prohaska, Andrew Staples and Olga Peretyatko and others.
A storm rages on Crete and forces King Idomeneo, who is returning from the Trojan War, to make a fatal promise to Neptune: If the angry God would let him reach the country safely, he would sacrifice the first person he would meet. Once on the beach, Idomeneo meets his son Idamante. But the unforgiving world of the gods seems to insist on fulfilling the promise.
Deutsche Oper Berlin
03/21/2020. Premiere of „ANTIKRIST“ by Rued Langaard. Musical direction: Stephan Zilias, production: Ersan Mondtag. With Thomas Lehman, the Antichrist enters a godless world.
Called by Lucifer himself, he reveals himself in many forms: Through courage, displeasure, desire, lies and hatred, humanity is tested and tried in the „dispute of all against all“. But at the end the voice of God puts an end to the Antichrist: „Hephata!“ / „Open yourself!“ – the world seems purified.
Komische Oper
03/29/2020. Premiere of „SCHWANDA, DER DUDELSACKPFEIFER“ as part of the Jeromir Weinberger Festival. A late romantic musical theater comedy. Musical direction: Ainars Rubikis, production: Andreas Homoki. With Daniel Schmutzhard, Sara Jakubiak, Ursula Hesse von den Steinen.

Ballet
State Ballet Berlin
Actually, the premiere of the new production of „DORNRÖSCHEN“ should come this month, but it was canceled just as the recently elected artistic directors of the State Ballet, Sasha Waltz and Johannes Öhman, said goodbye overnight. Today even the press conference for the program for the 2020/2021 season was canceled at short notice. There seems to be a chaos behind the scenes. Let us hope that this state of general confusion will soon been dissolved and that we can look forward to our beloved Staatsballett again.
My tip for this month: „LA BAYADERE“ on March 8th, 13th, 15th and 20th in the State Opera Unter den Linden.

Theatre
Deutsches Theater Berlin
The Deutsches Theater starts this spring with 3 strong pieces:
08.03.2020. Premiere of „DECAMERONE“ (ten-day work) by Kirill Serebrennikov based on motifs by Giovanni Boccaccio. The director, who was highly praised in many countries, fell out of favor in his own country and was placed under house arrest in Moscow for 1 1/2 years. He has only been allowed to move freely since April 2019, but his passport remained confiscated. He has therefore staged several productions from his involuntary exile from a distance, such as the opera „NABUCCO“ in Hamburg. Let’s see if he can travel to Berlin this time.

03/21/2020. Premiere of „FRÄULEIN JULIE“ by August Strindberg. Director: Timofei Kuljabin (as well as Serebrennikov from Russia). With Franziska Machens, Linn Reusse, Felix Goeser. Strindberg’s most played piece again as a new production on Berlin’s stages – the heart of all theater fans will be happy!

03/27/2020. The premiere of „THE CAT ON THE HOT BLECHDACH“ by Tennessee Williams is the world-famous play, which only became famous after the filming in 1958 with Elisabeth Taylor in the role of „Maggie“.
A family meets for the last birthday of the rich but terminally ill patron, whose money all heirs want. Directed by Jette Steckel. With Maren Eggert as „Maggie“. It could be exciting!

Berliner Ensemble
03/28/2020. Premiere of „FABIAN OR THE GANG INTO THE DOGS“ by Erich Kästner. Directed by Frank Castorf. With Sina Martens and others
A stage adaptation of the semi-biographical novel by Erich Kästner, whose books were burned by the Nazis. He was the author of wonderful children’s books such as „Emil and the Detectives“ (1929), „The Double Lottery“ (1949) and „The Flying Classroom“ (1933). But „Fabian“ is also a little gem, which I was able to experience on stage for the first time in 2015 in a great production by students from the Ernst Busch Drama School in the Schaubühne. I’m curious!

Schaubühne
03/11/2020. Premiere of „DIE AFFEN“ by Marius von Mayenburg, who also directs it himself. A play about a human being who turns back into a monkey. Because evolution is at an end – now comes devolution …

Maxim Gorki Theater
03/28/2020. Premiere of „BERLIN ORANIENPLATZ“ by Hakan Savas Mican, who also directs. About a man of Turkish origin who, after many scams, has to leave Germany for Turkey the next day in order not to end up in prison. On his last night he visits the places in Berlin that have become his home. With a lot of music!

03/13/2020. Premiere of „ULTRA – A MEASURE“ by Cesconetto, Jung, Katzer, Thomasberger, Witt, Wray (HfS Ultras). In cooperation with the Ernst Busch drama school. March 26-28, 2020. EDWARD W. SAID DAYS 2020 to commemorate the co-founder of the West-East Divan Orchestra

Art
Barberini Museum „MONET.ORTE“ from 22.02. Claude Monet repeatedly visited the same locations for his landscapes or made extensive series in one place. So he made numerous paintings while traveling on the coast of Normandy, in the Dutch Zaandam or in London and Venice. He was not interested in picturesque sights, but light and weather phenomena and their various effects on these places. In his places of residence such as Paris, Argenteuil, Vétheuil and Giverny, he also gained motifs from the everyday environment, such as parks, gardens and water lilies, with which he continued to explore light and color.
