Das größte Popkonzert der letzten 30 Jahre – 100 Stars singen aus ihren Wohnzimmern
In der Nacht von Samstag, den 18. April, auf Sonntag, den 19. April, wurde auf den drei wichtigsten Fernsehsendern der USA, ABC, NBC und CBS, ein achtstündiges Konzert gezeigt, welches alle großen Musikstars unserer Zeit vereinte – und alle sangen, tanzten und spielten dabei von zu Hause aus ihren Wohnzimmern.

Organisiert wurde „One World: Together At Home“ von der nicht-staatlichen Organisation GLOBAL CITIZEN, die sich seit 2008 weltweit um viele soziale Projekte kümmert, wie Umwelt, Bildung, Frauenrechte, Ernährung, sauberes Trinkwasser, u.s.w.
Dieses Mal hatte GLOBAL CITIZEN zur Unterstützung der vielen Helfer der Corona-Krise sowie zur Spende an die Weltgesundheitsorganisation WHO auf ihrer Internetseite www.act.me aufgerufen.
Bis Sonntag Abend waren auf diese Weise über 55 Millionen Dollar für die WHO und über 70 Millionen Dollar für andere Hilfsorganisationen gespendet worden.

Die Spende speziell an die WHO kann auch als ein Affront gegen Präsident Donald Trump gewertet werden, da dieser erst vor wenigen Tagen verkündet hatte, der WHO ihre Gelder zu streichen, weil sie angeblich schlecht über das Coronavirus informiert hätte.
Dabei sollte nicht unerwähnt bleiben, dass sich Donald Trump kurz nach seinem Amtsantritt bereits von der Weltkulturorganisation UNESCO verabschiedet hatte. Und über den Ausstieg aus dem Pariser Klimaabkommen und aus dem Atomvertrag mit dem Iran wollen wir hier erst gar nicht reden…

Entsprechend gab es auch nicht, wie sonst üblich, einen Auftritt der derzeitigen First Lady, Melania Trump, sondern Video-Statements der früheren Präsidentengattinnen Laura Bush und Michelle Obama – ein deutliches Zeichen!
Das Ganze erinnerte natürlich sehr an das berühmte LIVE AID Konzert von 1985, welches Sir Bob Geldof als Ernährungshilfe für Afrika organisiert hatte.
Es fand parallel in zwei verschiedenen Stadien am 13. Juli 1985 statt: Im Londoner Wembley Stadion und im John F. Kennedy Stadion in Philadelphia.

Bereits damals spielten die berühmtesten Bands und Popstars mit:
Von Madonna über Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Carlos Santana, The Who, Tina Turner, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Bran Ferry u.s.w.
Phil Collins spielte sogar auf beiden Konzerten: Er flog zwischendurch mit der Concorde von London nach New York in 3 Stunden!
LIVE AID war das bis dahin größte Rockkonzert der Geschichte und dauerte 16 Stunden. Der 20- minütige Auftritt der Gruppe Queen mit Freddy Mercury war der Höhepunkt des Konzertes und gilt heute als der beste Auftritt der Band überhaupt. Auch damals wurde das Konzert via Satellit weltweit im Fernsehen verbreitet (Internet gab es noch nicht) und erreichte 1,5 Milliarden Menschen auf 5 Kontinenten – 200 Millionen D-Mark wurden damit eingenommen.

Solche Konzertatmosphäre war jetzt 35 Jahre später natürlich nicht zu erwarten, denn es gab keine Bühne und keine Mega-Soundanlage mit Tausenden von Watts.
Nein, wegen der Konzertverbote und Ausgangsperren auf Grund der Corona-Pandemie in fast allen westlichen Industriestaaten konnten die insgesamt 100 Musiker nur zu Hause im Wohnzimmer auftreten.
Dafür gab es viele Einblick in das Privatleben der Stars.

Auch dieses Mal, wie schon 1985, waren fast alle Großen der Musikszene vertreten:
– Billie Eilish sang „Sunny“ von Bobby Hepp,
– Taylor Swift sang ihren Song „Soon You‘ ll Get Better“,
– Paul MacCartney sang den Beatles-Song „Lady Madonna“ als Hymne auf alle Krankenschwestern,
– The Rolling Stones in einem viertgeteilten Bild aus vier verschiedenen Wohnungen auf einem Fernsehschirm vereint, spielten ihren Song „You can’t Always Get What You Want“,
– Steve Wonder sang „Lean on me“ in Erinnerung an den kürzlich verstorbenen Bill Whithers,
– Elton John sang sein Lied „I‘ m Still Standing“ und
– Lady Gaga gab „Smile“ von Nat King Cole zum besten
– Céline Dion und Andrea Bonelli (mit Lang Lang, John Legend und Lady Gaga) sangen „The Prayer“

Lady Gagas Auftritt, wie derjenige der Rolling Stones und der gemeinsame Gesangsauftritt von Moderator Jimmy Fallon mit über 30 Krankenhausarbeitern, waren für mich die Höhepunkte.

Interessant zu sehen, wie manche sich vorbereitet hatten:
Während Paul McCartney absolut unplugged spielte und auch ziemlich ungeschminkt und unfrisiert aussah, waren die Auftritte von Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Jennifer Lorenz, Byoncé (nur Statement, keinen Song), und anderen Sänger*innen perfekt organisierte Wohnzimmer-Shows.
Aber die Stones, anders, als in anderen Medien kolportiert, sangen für mich sehr authentisch – Keith Richard war kaum zu hören, dafür die E-Gitarre von Ron Wood umso deutlicher und das Schlagzeug von Charlie Watts gar nicht, denn er hatte, dort wo er saß, keine Drums. Dafür trommelte er lustvoll auf alle möglichen Gegenstände in seinem Wohnzimmer herum.

Ebenfalls bemerkenswert, wie viele der heutigen Musiker doch noch ein Instrument beherrschen. Die meisten ein Klavier (wie Sean Mendes, Lady Gaga und Taylor Swift) oder zumindest eine simple Akustik-Gitarre (wie Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Keith Urban).

Sehr entspannt und wie immer völlig unglamourös war Billie Eilish‘ Auftritt im grauen Jogginganzug zu Hause mit ihrem Bruder Finneas, der an einer alten Hammond-Orgel saß.

Zum Schluss gab es das Quartett aus Lady Gaga, Pianist Lang Lang, Céline Dion und Andrea Bocelli und sangen „The Prayer“, ein Song von Dion/ Bocelli aus dem Jahre 1999.
Natürlich ein Lied für die Tränendüsen…

Corona Concert – One World: Together At Home

The biggest pop concert of the past 30 years – to support the many helpers in the corona crisis.
On the night of Saturday, April 18, to Sunday, April 19, an eight-hour concert was shown on the three most important television channels in the USA, ABC, NBC and CBS, which brought together all the great music stars of our time – and all performed in their living rooms.‘
„One World: Together At Home“ was organized by the non-governmental organization GLOBAL CITIZEN, which has been taking care of many social projects worldwide since 2008, such as the environment, education, women’s rights, nutrition, clean drinking water, etc.

This time, GLOBAL CITIZEN called for support to the many helpers in the corona crisis and for a donation to the World Health Organization (WHO) on its website www.act.me.
By Sunday evening, over $ 55 million had been donated to WHO and over $ 70 million to other aid agencies.
The donation specifically to the WHO can also be seen as an affront to President Donald Trump, who announced a few days ago that he would withdraw the money to the WHO because he thinks they had given poor information about the corona virus.
It should not go unmentioned that Donald Trump had already said goodbye to the World Cultural Organization UNESCO shortly after taking office. And we don’t even want to talk about the exit from the Paris climate agreement and the nuclear deal with Iran …
Accordingly, there was not, as usual, an appearance by the current first lady (Melania Trump) but video statements by the former president’s wives Laura Bush and Michelle Obama – a clear sign!

The whole thing reminded of course of the famous LIVE AID concert from 1985, which Sir Bob Geldof had organized as food aid for Africa.
At that time it took place in parallel in two different stadiums on July 13, 1985: in London’s Wembley Stadium and in John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.

Even then, the most famous bands and pop stars played along:
From Madonna to Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Carlos Santana, The Who, Tina Turner, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Bran Ferry, etc.

LIVE AID was the largest rock concert in history to date and lasted 16 hours. The 20-minute performance of the group QUEEN with Freddy Mercury was the highlight of the concert and is now considered the best performance of the band.
Even then, the concert was broadcast on television worldwide via satellite (the Internet did not yet exist) and reached 1.5 billion people on 5 continents – 200 million D-Marks were thus taken.

Such a concert atmosphere was of course not to be expected this time 35 years later, because there was no stage and no mega sound system with thousands of watts. Because of the concert bans and curfews due to the corona pandemic in almost all western industrialized countries, the 100 musicians could only perform at home in their living rooms.

This time in 2020, same as in 1985, almost all the big stars of the music scene were represented:
– Billie Eilish sang „Sunny“ by Bobby Hepp,
– Taylor Swift sang her song „Soon You ‚ll Get Better“,
– Paul MacCartney sang the Beatles song „Lady“ Madonna „as a hymn to all nurses,
– The Rolling Stones combined in a four-part picture from four different apartments on a television screen, played her song“ You can’t always get what you want „,
– Steve Wonder sang“ Lean on me „in memory recently deceased Bill Whithers,
– Elton John sang his song „I’m Still Standing“ and
– Lady Gaga performed „Smile“ by Nast King Cole.
Lady Gaga’s appearance, like that of the Rolling Stones and the joint vocal performance of moderator Jimmy Fallon with over 30 hospital workers were the highlights for me.

It was interesting to see how the musicians had prepared their performance:
While Paul McCartney played absolutely unplugged and also looked pretty unadorned and unfrimmed.
But the performances by Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Jennifer Lorenz, Byoncé (only statement, no song), and other singers were perfectly organized.

The Rolling Stones, unlike other media have told, sang very authentically for me – Keith Richard was barely audible, Ron Wood’s electric guitar all the more clearly and Charlie Watts‘ drums not at all, because Charlie had no drums. So he drummed lustily on all kinds of objects in his living room during the performance.

It was also remarkable how many of today’s musicians really master an instrument.
Most of them play the piano or unless a simple acoustic guitar.

Billie Eilish appeared in a gray jogging suit very relaxed like always. She performed at home together with her brother Finneas, who was sitting next to her on an old Hammond organ.

At the end there was a quartet of Lady Gaga, pianist Lang Lang, Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli combined in one picture and sang „The Prayer“, a song by Dion / Bocelli from 1999.
