Die neuen Filme im Kino – The Fall Guy – Ryan Gosling

Spannender Actionfilm mit viel Humor und einem Schuss Liebe
Als ich erfuhr, dass die Europapremiere des neuen Films mit RYAN GOSLING und EMILY BLUNT hier in Berlin stattfinden würde und nicht, wie bei amerikanischen Produktionen üblich, in London, war ich überrascht und natürlich auch happy.
Denn so häufig hat man außerhalb der Berlinale nicht die Gelegenheit, einen Hollywood-Star bei uns zu bestaunen.
Umso glücklicher war ich als ich RYAN GOSLING, der zusammen mit seiner Filmpartnerin EMILY BLUNT extra aus den Staaten angereist kam, mit meinem Handy auf dem Roten Teppich erwischte.
Dabei stellte ich fest, dass er im wahren Leben genauso charmant und gutaussehend ist, wie auf der Kinoleinwand.

Tage später ging ich zur Pressevorführung des Films und war positiv überrascht.
Häufig werden solche Actionfilme nur deshalb gedreht, um möglichst viele Verfolgungsfahrten, krachende Unfälle, zertrümmerte Einrichtungen und wüste Schlägereien für ein Publikum zu drehen, dass letztlich nur einfache Popkorn-Unterhaltung am Wochenende will.
Doch RYAN GOSLING und EMILY BLUNT versuchen mit einer komplizierten Liebesaffäre und witzigen Dialogen etwas mehr zu zeigen.
Es macht Spaß, den beiden zuzusehen, auch wenn man nicht den Eindruck hat, dass es zwischen den beiden wirklich gefunkt hat.
Da gab es mit Filmpartnerin EMMA STONE in „La La Land“ mehr Feuer.
In „The Fall Guy“ spielen beide ihre Rollen als verliebtes Pärchen professionell gut und sind jederzeit hübsch anzusehen – mehr aber auch nicht.

Ohne Übertreibung darf man sagen, dass RYAN GOSLING der neue Superstar am Hollywood-Himmel ist und in der Beliebtheitsskala andere Hollywood-Superhelden wie BRAD PITT und JOHNNY DEPP überholt hat. GEORGE CLOONEY ist mittlerweile zu alt und LEONARDO DI CAPRIO spielt in einer ganz eigenen Liga.
1980 in Ontario/ Kanada geboren, bekommt der junge RYAN GOSLING schon mit 13 Jahren bei einem Casting in Montreal die Chance, in der berühmten TV-Kinderserie „The Mickey Mouse Club“ vom Disney Channel in den USA mitzuspielen. Zeitgleich mit BRITNEY SPEAERS, CHRISTINA AGUILERA und JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.
Er setzt die Schule aus und zieht mit seiner Mutter nach Florida, weil die Serie dort gedreht wird.
Mit TIMBEERLAKE entsteht eine enge Freundschaft, die bis heute anhält.
1995 kehrte er nach Kanada zurück und spielte dort ebenfalls in verschiedenen TV-Kinderserien.
Doch mehr und mehr wird er jetzt auch für Kinoproduktionen gebucht, so dass ich er sich im Alter von 19 Jahren entscheidet nur noch auf der großen Leinwand zu spielen.
Seine erste große Hauptrolle in dem Film „The Believer“ (2002) von HENRY BEAN wird gleich zu einem unerwarteten Erfolg.
In dem Film spielt er die schwierige Rolle eines Juden, der Neo-Nazi geworden ist, am Schluss aber wieder zu seiner Religion zurückfindet.
Der Film gewinnt beim Sundance Filmfestival den Großen Preis der Jury.
Auch in den nächsten Jahren schafft es RYAN GOSLING immer wieder in guten bis sehr guten Independent-Filmen und gleichzeitig in großen Hollywood-Produktionen mitzuspielen.
„Murder by Numbers“ („Mord nach Plan“, 2002), mit SANDRA BULLOCK (mit der er zwei Jahre liiert war), „The Notebook“ („Wie ein einziger Tag“, 2004) von NICK CASSAVETES mit RACHEL MACADAMS, mit der er ebenfalls eine Liaison einging.
Für seine Rolle in „Half Nelson“ (2006) von RYAN FLECK, in dem er einen drogenabhängigen Lehrer in New York spielt, bekommt er seine erste Oscar-Nominierung. Da ist er gerade einmal 26 Jahre alt.
International bekannt wurde RYAN GOSLING dann durch die Blockbuster-Produktionen „Drive“ (2011), „La La Land“ (2016, Golden Globe als Bester Schauspieler und eine Oscar-Nominierung), „The Nice Guy“ (2016) an der Seite von Russell Crowe, „Blade Runner 2049“ (2017) von DENIS VILLENEUVE und natürlich „Barbie“ (2023, wieder einen Golden Globe und eine Oscar-Nominierung) von GRETA GERWIG mit MARGOT ROBBIE.

The Fall Guy
Der Film ist eine Reminiszenz an die Stuntmen und Stuntwomen, deren Namen keiner kennt, ohne die aber keine Actionszene im Film auskommen würde.
Selbst wenn einige Stunts ein Schauspieler selber ausführen könnte, so wird doch aus Sicherheitsgründen ein speziell ausgebildetes Double genommen, welches die Szene spielt. Zwar rühmen sich viele Action-Stars alle Stunts selber auszuführen (so wie TOM CRUISE), doch ob das wirklich stimmt ist zu bezweifeln, denn das Risiko ist zu groß, dass bei einer Verletzung der Hauptdarsteller wochenlang ausfällt und der Film nicht zu Ende gedreht werden kann.
Bei Liebes- und Nacktszenen kommen auch sogenannte Body-Doubles zum Einsatz, die dann Ihre nackte Brust, Beine oder Po in die Kamera halten.
Die Geschichte des Films geht auf die bekannte Fernsehserie „The Fall Guy“ (ungefähr zu übersetzen mit „Der Prügelknabe“) zurück, die in den 80er Jahren in den USA gedreht wurde.
Hier in Deutschland wurde die Serie unter dem Namen „Ein Colt für alle Fälle“ bekannt.
Darin erlebt der Stuntman Colt Seavers (gespielt von LEE MAJORS) viele Abenteuer, die darin bestehen, dass Colt neben seiner Tätigkeit als Stuntman auch für ein Kautionsbüro arbeitet, welches entflohene Angeklagte wieder einfängt, wenn sie nach ihrer Kaution untertauchen.
Der Regisseur von dem heutigen „The Fall Guy“, DAVID LEITCH (*1975), begann selber mal als Stuntman, als er das Double für u.a. Brad Pitt, Jean-Claude Van Damme oder Matt Damon war.
Ab 2014 ging er hinter die Kamera und drehte als Regisseur Action-Filme wie „Atomic Blonde“ mit CHARLIZE THERON, „John Wick“ mit KEANU REEVES, „Fast & Furios“ mit VIN DIESEL oder „Bullet Train“ mit BRAD PITT.
Im neuen „The Fall Guy“ spielt RYAN GOSLING den Stuntman Colt Seavers.
Im Film ist er seit sechs Jahren das Double von dem berühmten Action-Helden Tom Ryders (AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON), der allerdings darüber genervt ist, dass er nur den Schönling vor der Kamera spielen darf, der coole Typ und damit der eigentlich wahre Held aber sein Stuntman Colt Seavers ist.
Eines Tages passiert bei einem Stunt ein Unglück und Colt Seavers landet halbtot im Krankenhaus.
Nach seiner Genesung ein Jahr später will er von diesem Beruf nichts mehr wissen und arbeitet im Parking-Service eines Restaurants.
Plötzlich bekommt er einen Anruf von der Produzentin Gail ((HANNAH WADDINGHAM), die einen neuen Film mit Colts Flamme Jody Moreno (EMILY BLUNT) als Regisseurin begonnen hat und bittet ihn zurückzukommen, was er nur wegen seiner großen Liebe zu Jody tut.
Doch kaum am Set angekommen, geht es eigentlich darum, dass Colt für Gail den Hauptdarsteller Tom Ryder suchen soll, der spurlos verschwunden ist. Als er ihn endlich findet, sieht er in der Badewanne bei Tom einen Toten und merkt, dass er in ein Komplott geraten ist.

Kritik
Gleich zu Beginn ertönt der alte Hit „I was made for Lovin‘ you, baby“ (1979) von der Rock-Gruppe KISS, was den Zuschauer schon mal so richtig in Stimmung bringt. Um bei der Musik zu bleiben: Den Schlusspunkt setzt dann Phil Collins mit „Take a Look at Me Now“ (1999) am Ende – immer noch zum Schmelzen schön…
Wie oben schon beschrieben macht der Film richtig Spaß, insbesondere wegen RYAN GOSLING.
Dabei spielt er gar nicht den knallharten, testosteron-gesteuerten Typen, wie z.B. ein JASON STATHAM, sondern eher den etwas trotteligen und humorvollen, der immer versucht einen coolen Spruch auf den Lippen zu haben (ähnlich wie in dem Film „The Nice Guy“).
Die Geschichte ist recht spannend, auch wenn sie gelegentlich nicht ganz schlüssig ist und man als Zuschauer leicht den Faden verliert.
Natürlich gibt es viele gutgemachte Action-Szenen, die, soweit ich das beurteilen kann, fast alle „real“ gefilmt wurden, also nicht am Computer virtuell erstellt. Gerade die Szenen in den Dünen am Strand sind toll und ein wahrer Augenschmaus.
Die Liebesszenen mit EMILY BLUNT (*1983) sind dagegen etwas schwach.
Die britische Schauspielerin, die in Filmen wie dem Drogenkartell-Drama „Sicario“ einfach zum Niederknien gut war, bleibt hier in ihren Fähigkeiten zurück.
Fazit: Gute Unterhaltung mit viel Humor und einem wunderbaren RYAN GOSLING

Exciting action movie with a lot of humor and a dash of love
When I found out that the European premiere of the new film with RYAN GOSLING and EMILY BLUNT would take place here in Berlin and not in London, as is usual with American productions, I was surprised and of course very happy.
Because outside of the Berlinale you don’t often have the opportunity to admire a Hollywood stars here.
I was even happier when I caught RYAN GOSLING, who came all the way from the States with his film partner EMILY BLUNT, on the red carpet with my cell phone.

I discovered that he is just as charming and handsome in real life as he is on the big screen.
Days later, I went to the press screening of the movie and I was pleasantly surprised.
Such action movies are often made simply to produce as many car chases, crashes, smashed facilities and wild brawls as possible for an audience that ultimately just wants simple popcorn entertainment on the weekend.
But RYAN GOSLING and EMILY BLUNT try to show something more with a complicated love affair and funny dialogues.
It’s fun to watch the two of them, even if you don’t get the impression that there’s really any spark between them.
There was much more fire Between RYAN GOSLING and EMMA STONE in “La La Land”.
In “The Fall Guy” they both play their roles as a couple in love professionally well and are always pretty to look at – but nothing more.

It is no exaggeration to say that RYAN GOSLING is the new superstar in Hollywood and has overtaken other Hollywood superheroes such as BRAD PITT and JOHNNY DEPP in terms of popularity. And GEORGE CLOONEY is now too old and LEONARDO DI CAPRIO is in a league of his own.
Born in Ontario/Canada in 1980, the young RYAN GOSLING was given the chance to appear in the famous children’s TV series “The Mickey Mouse Club” by Disney Channel in the USA at the age of 13 during a casting in Montreal.
At the same time as BRITNEY SPEAERS, CHRISTINA AGUILERA and JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.
He skips school and moves to Florida with his mother because the series is recorded there.
A close friendship developed with TIMBEERLAKE that continues to this day.
In 1995 he returns to Canada and also appears in various children’s TV series there.
But more and more he is now being booked for cinema productions, so that at the age of 19 he decides to only act on the big screen.
His first major leading role in the film “The Believer” (2002) by HENRY BEAN immediately became an unexpected success. In the film he plays the difficult role of a Jew who became a neo-Nazi but ultimately finds his way back to his religion.
The movie won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
In the next few years, RYAN GOSLING will continue to appear in interesting independent movies and at the same time in major Hollywood productions.

The movie is a reminiscence of the stuntmen and stuntwomen whose names no one knows, but without whom no action scene would be possible.
Even if an actor could perform some of the stunts themselves, for safety reasons a specially trained double is used to act out the scene.
Although many action stars boast that they do all the stunts themselves (like TOM CRUISE), it is doubtful whether this is true, because the risk is too big that if the main actor gets injured, he will be out for weeks and the film cannot be finished.
So-called „body doubles“ are also used in love and nude scenes, who then hold their bare chest, legs or as into the camera.
The story of the movie goes back to the well-known television series “The Fall Guy”, which was filmed in the USA in the 80s. Here in Germany the series became known as “A Colt for All Cases”.
In it, the stuntman Colt Seavers (played by LEE MAJORS) experiences many adventures, which consist of the fact that, in addition to his work as a stuntman, Colt also works for a bail agency that catches escaped defendants when they go into hiding after their bail.
The director of today’s „The Fall Guy„, DAVID LEITCH (*1975), started out as a stuntman himself when he played the double for BRAD PITT, JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME and MATT DAMON, among others.
From 2014 he went behind the camera and directed action movies such as “Atomic Blonde” with CHARLIZE THERON, “John Wick” with KEANU REEVES, “Fast & Furios” with VIN DIESEL and “Bullet Train” with BRAD PITT.

Ryder is annoyed that he is only allowed to play the pretty boy in front of the camera, but the cool guy and therefore the actual real hero is his stuntman Colt Seavers.
One day an accident occurs during a stunt and Colt Seavers ends up half dead in the hospital.
After his recovery a year later, he no longer wants to have anything to do with this job and works in a parking service of a restaurant.
Suddenly he gets a call from producer Gail ((HANNAH WADDINGHAM), who has started a new movie with Colt’s flame Jody Moreno (EMILY BLUNT) as director, and asks him to come back, which he only does because of his great love for Jody.
But as soon as he arrives on the set, he notice, that his job for Gail is mainly to look for the main actor Tom Ryder, who had disappeared without a trace.
When Colt finally finds him, he sees a dead man in the bathtub at Tom Ryder’s apartment and realizes that he has fallen into a plot.

Critics
Right at the beginning you can hear the old hit “I was made for Lovin’ you, baby” (1979) by the rock group KISS, which really gets the viewer right in the mood.
To stay with the music: Phil Collins ends the movie with “Take a Look at Me Now” (1999) – still melting in your eyes…
As described above, the movie is really fun, especially because of RYAN GOSLING.
He doesn’t play the tough, testosterone-controlled guy, like JASON STATHAM, for example, but rather the somewhat goofy and humorous one who always tries to have a cool saying on his lips ( like in his movie „The Nice Guy“).
The story is quite exciting, even if it is occasionally not entirely coherent and as a viewer you easily lose the thread.
Of course, there are many well-made action scenes, which, as far as I can tell, were almost filmed in “real” – means not created virtually on the computer.
Especially the scenes in the dunes on the beach are great and a real feast for the eyes.
The love scenes with EMILY BLUNT (*1983), on the other hand, are a bit weak.
The British actress, who played really well in movies like the drug cartel drama “Sicario,” falls short in her abilities here.
Conclusion: Good entertainment with a lot of humor and a wonderful RYAN GOSLING
