Der kulturelle Lockdown beflügelt die Phantasie für ungewöhnliche Projekte
Eric Gauthier, kanadischer Solotänzer und Chef seiner eigenen Tanzkompanie Gauthier Dance, wollte den Frust seines Ballettensembles überwinden.
Ein neues Projekt musste her, das alle begeistern sollte. Verbunden mit dem Wunsch viele Kreative miteinzubinden.
Nicht nur Tänzer sollten Gelegenheit bekommen, ihre Kunst zu zeigen, sondern auch Musiker, Kostümbildner, Videofilmer und natürlich Choreographen.
Zur Finanzierung seines Projektes fand Eric Gauthier nun in der Daimler AG einen starken Partner, der mit seinem Netzwerk „be a mover“ und der Initiative WE CARE WE DO WE MOVE schon seit längerer Zeit unterschiedliche Disziplinen im Bereich Kultur unterstützt.
Wie kam es zu dieser Kooperation?
Eric Gauthier, 1977 in Montreal geboren, begann seine Tanzausbildung beim National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. Sein Lehrer: Reid Anderson. Als dieser 1996 zum künstlerischen Leiter des Stuttgarter Balletts ernannt wurde, nahm er Eric Gauthier mit nach Deutschland. In Stuttgart wurde Gauthier nach nur wenigen Jahren Solotänzer der Kompanie und tanzte alle wichtigen Rollen im klassischen Ballett.
Doch Eric Gauthiers Leidenschaft lag mehr im Zeitgenössischen Tanz. Er begann mit modernen Choreographen, wie Jiri Kylian (Nederlands Dans Theaters), William Forsythe (Ballett Frankfurt), Paul Lightfoot (Nederlands Dans Theaters) oder Hans van Manen (Nederlands Dans Theaters) zu arbeiten.
2007, mit nur 30 Jahren, gründete Eric Gauthier im Theaterhaus Stuttgart die GAUTHIER DANCE COMPAGNIE. Seitdem durften hier die besten zeitgenössischen Choreographen ihre Arbeiten mit Tänzern der Kompanie aufführen.

Dieses halb privat, halb staatlich unterstützte Kulturhaus, in dem neben Ballett auch Theater, Comedy, Kabarett, Jazz, Klassik und Neue Musik gezeigt wird, ist mit 300.000 Besuchern bei über 1000 Veranstaltungen im Jahr eines der erfolgreichsten Häuser seiner Art in ganz Europa.
Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Leiter der Gauthier Dance Company hat Eric Gauthier auch mehrere soziale Aktivitäten gestartet, die ihm bereits den Verdienstorden des Landes Baden-Württemberg einbrachten.

Außerdem ist Eric Gauthier Mitbegründer des Colours International Dance Festivals in Stuttgart, dass auch dieses Jahr wieder, wenn es die Corona-Pandemie zuläßt, im Sommer stattfinden soll. Bei diesem Tanzfestival werden hauptsächlich junge Choreographen gefördert.
Durch diese vielen außergewöhnlichen Aktionen Eric Gauthiers wurde das Automobilunternehmen Daimler, welches mit seinem Corporate Citizenship Programm unter WE CARE WE DO WE MOVE weltweit föderungswürdige Projekte unterstützt, auf ihn aufmerksam.

Vor kurzem folgte Eric Gauthier einer Einladung von Daimler zu der auf YouTube ausgestrahlten Interview-Reihe „be a mover talk“ mit Jörg Howe, dem Leiter der globalen Kommunikation der Daimler AG.
Zunächst nur auf ein Gespräch über die allgemeine Lage der Tänzerinnen und Tänzer während der Corona-Pandemie beschränkt, überraschte Jörg Howe, als er Eric Gauthier zusagte, dass die Daimler AG sein Vorhaben „The Dying Swans Project“ unterstützen möchte.
Und dies in einem so frühen Stadium, als Einzelheiten darüber noch nicht einmal der Öffentlichkeit bekannt waren.

Die Freude bei Eric Gauthier war groß!
Konnte jetzt doch an der konkreten Umsetzung des Projekts gearbeitet werden. Mit der Gewissheit, dass durch diese Aktion mindestens 64 an der Produktion beteiligte freischaffende Kreative eine gesicherte Einnahme und ein berufliches Ziel haben würden.

Mittlerweile gibt es schon Kooperationen mit verschiedenen Spielorten, die die „Dying Swans“ neben dem Theaterhaus Stuttgart bei sich aufführen wollen:
Das Bolschoi Theater in Moskau, das Holland Dance Festival in Den Haag, das Bolzano Danza Festival in Bozen und Les Théatres de la Ville in Luxemburg.

Vielleicht kommen die 16 „sterbenden Schwäne“ ja auch mal nach Berlin?

The cultural lockdown stimulates the imagination for unusual projects
Eric Gauthier, Canadian solo dancer and head of his own dance company Gauthier Dance, wanted to overcome the frustration of his ballet company due to the Corona lockdown. A new project was needed that should inspire everyone. Connected with the desire to involve many creative people. Not only dancers should have the opportunity to show their art, but also musicians, costume designers, videographers and of course choreographers.
To finance his project, Eric Gauthier has now found a strong partner in Daimler AG who has been supporting various cultural disciplines with his network “be a mover”, which Eric also belongs to, and who has supported the WE CARE WE DO WE MOVE initiative for a long time.
How did this cooperation come about?
Eric Gauthier, born in Montreal in 1977, began his dance training with the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto.
His teacher: Reid Anderson. When Anderson was appointed artistic director of the Stuttgart Ballet in 1996, he took Eric Gauthier with him to Germany.
In Stuttgart, after only a few years, Gauthier became the company’s solo dancer and danced all the important roles in classical ballet.
But Eric Gauthier’s passion was more the Contemporary Dance. He began to work with modern choreographers such as Jiri Kylian (Nederlands Dans Theaters), William Forsythe (Ballett Frankfurt), Paul Lightfoot (Nederlands Dans Theaters) or Hans van Manen (Nederlands Dans Theaters).

In 2007, at the age of only 30, Eric Gauthier founded the GAUTHIER DANCE COMPAGNIE in the Theaterhaus Stuttgart. Since then, the best contemporary choreographers have been allowed to perform their work with dancers from the company. This half private, half state-supported cultural center, which shows ballet as well as theater, comedy, cabaret, jazz, classical and new music, is one of the most successful houses of its kind in Europe with 300,000 visitors at over 1000 events a year.
In addition to his work as head of the Gauthier Dance Company, Eric Gauthier has also started several social activities that have already earned him the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg.

In addition, Eric Gauthier is co-founder of the Colours International Dance Festival in Stuttgart this year, if the corona pandemic allows, it should take place in the summer. This dance festival mainly promotes young choreographers.
Through these many extraordinary projects by Eric Gauthier the automobile company Daimler became aware of, which supports projects worthy of funding worldwide with its corporate citizenship program under WE CARE WE DO WE MOVE.

Eric Gauthier recently accepted an invitation from Daimler to participate in the “be a mover talk” series of interviews with Jörg Howe, Head of Global Communications at Daimler AG.

Initially limited to a conversation about the general situation of the dancers during the corona pandemic, Jörg Howe surprised when he promised Eric Gauthier that Daimler AG would like to support his „The Dying Swans Project“. And this at such an early stage when details about the project were not even known to the public.
Eric Gauthier’s joy can be seen in the video (see above).
It was now possible to work on the concrete implementation of the project.
With the certainty that through this cooperation at least 64 freelance creative people involved in the production would have a secure income and a professional goal.

There are now collaborations with various venues who want to show the “Dying Swans” in their theater:
The Bolschoi Theater in Moscow, the Holland Dance Festival in The Hague, the Bolzano Danza Festival in Bozen and Les Théatres de la Ville in Luxemburg.

Maybe the 16 „dying swans“ will come to Berlin one day?
