Endlich wieder Ballett live – Das Staatsballett zeigt in seiner Gala „From Berlin with Love“ brillante Auszüge aus ihrem Repertoire und neue Choreographien.

Yolanda Correa, Arshak Ghalumyan, Ksenia Ovsyanick, Aurora Dickie, Chloe Lopes Gomes, Federico Spallitta, Paul Vickers, Olaf Kollmannsperger , Alizée Sicre, Dana Pajarillaga, Alejandro Virelles, Polina Semionova, Iana Salenko, Johnny McMillan, Lucio Vidal, Tara Samaya, Ross Martinson, Marina Kanno, Yi-Chi Lee, Mari Kawanishi, Filipa Cavaco, Weronika Frodyma, Marco Arena, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Cécile Kaltenbach, Vahe Martirosyan, Jenna Fakhoury, Yuria Isaka, Paulina Bidzinska, Aya Okumura, Sarah-Jane Brodbeck, Marian Walter, Luciana Voltolini, Eloïse Sacilotto, Alexander Abdukarimov, Elinor Jagodnik, Harumi Terayama, Yoko Callegari, Giuliana Bottino, Elodie Estève, Alexei Orlenco, Evelina Godunova, Sacha Males, Georgeta Varvarici, Anna Liening

Musik: Cesare Pugni

Dann geht es modern weiter, „LOOK OUT FROM THE SILENCE“, mit dem Tänzer Alexander Abdukarimov, der in seiner eigenen Choreographie elegant mit einem riesigen Scheinwerfer kämpft. Großer Applaus und Bravo-Rufe.

Das nächste Stück ist der Knaller des Abends: Die Berliner Erstaufführung eines Auszugs von Heinz Spoerlis Choreographie „EIN SOMMERNACHTSTRAUM“ mit der Musik von Philipp Glass. Absolut faszinierend.

Ballet Gala live – From Berlin with love Vol.1

By Holger Jacobs

08/27/2020

Finally ballet live again – The State Ballet shows brilliant excerpts from their repertoire and new choreographies.

When I came to the Deutsche Oper for the premiere of the new Ballet Gala of the Berlin State Ballet last night, I hadn’t seen the inside of the house for six months.

When the lights slowly went out and the performance began, a joyful feeling of tension and interest immediately set in.
How nice to finally be back at a live event.
No video, no matter how well done, can reproduce the atmosphere of a live event. For people who absolutely need art and culture for their soul life, like for me, the experience was really very special. And with the request to God, if possible, not to have to experience another lockdown in these Corona times.

Because of the Corona regulation, the management of the Deutsche Oper has arranged large distances between the viewers: Although every row is used, but three, sometimes even four seats remain free between. This means that from the maximum of 1800 possible seats, there are only 400 possible seats for visitors – less than ¼ (see photo).

The management of the State Ballet had done a great job. To overturn the entire program of a season in such a short time and bring something completely new to the stage is truly an act of strength. That is why the whole team and especially the new director of the State Ballet, Dr. Theobald, meant the highest recognition.
A potpourri of excerpts from well-known choreographies, but also three Berlin premieres and one world premiere, awaits the audience.

The evening begins with the projection of the video “FROM BERLIN WITH LOVE”. It shows a compilation of several short films that 45 members of the State Ballet recorded with their own cell phones. The first solo dancer, Ksenia Ovsyanick, had asked them to create small choreographies in isolation at home during the lockdown and then cut them thematically into a 3½ minute film. The 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony is playing in the background. Although only realized with the simplest technical means, a very emotional mood arises, which has already been rewarded with over 50,000 views on YouTube.
A big bravo to Ksenia Ovsyanik!

The dancers involved in the video are:
Yolanda Correa, Arshak Ghalumyan, Ksenia Ovsyanick, Aurora Dickie, Chloe Lopes Gomes, Federico Spallitta, Paul Vickers, Olaf Kollmannsperger, Alizée Sicre, Dana Pajarillaga, Alejandro Virelles, Polina Semionova, Iana Salenko, Johnny Samaya, Rossaya, Rossio, Martinson, Marina Kanno, Yi-Chi Lee, Mari Kawanishi, Filipa Cavaco, Weronika Frodyma, Marco Arena, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Cécile Kaltenbach, Vahe Martirosyan, Jenna Fakhoury, Yuria Isaka, Paulina Bidzinska, Aya Okumura, Sarah-Jane Brodbeck, Marian Walter, Luciana Voltolini, Eloïse Sacilotto, Alexander Abdukarimov, Elinor Jagodnik, Harumi Terayama, Yoko Callegari, Giuliana Bottino, Elodie Estève, Alexei Orlenco, Evelina Godunova, Sacha Males, Georgeta Varvarici, Anna Liening

For the evening, the audience in the Deutsche Oper can expect ten smaller to larger choreographies from very different artists and different styles:
The first choreography „PAS DE QUATRE“ by Anton Dolin shows classical ballet like in the 19th century. Tutu, lace dance and a constant smile on the dancers face. Technically certainly challenging, it couldn’t convince anyone that evening. With: Elisa Carrilo Cabrera, Yolanda Correra, Ksenia Ovsyanick, Iana Salenko. Music: Cesare Pugni
Then it continues modern, „LOOK OUT FROM THE SILENCE“,  with dancer Alexander Abdukarimov, who fights elegantly with a huge spotlight in his own choreography. Big applause and shouts of bravo (see the photos in our picture series).

The next piece is the blast of the evening:
The Berlin premiere of an excerpt from Heinz Spoerli’s choreography “A SUMMER NIGHT DREAM” with music by Philipp Glass. Absolutely fascinating. For me the highlight of the evening! With the dancers Sarah Brodbeck, Vahe Martirosyan, Evelina Godunova, Yevgeniy Khissamutdinow, Alizée Sicre and Alexej Orlenco.
See my video:

In “CINQUE”, superstar Polina Semionova shines in a modern choreography by Mauro Biganzetti. Polina’s ability to express herself with her arms, hands and fingers is impressive and is currently not achieved by any other dancer (see the photos in our picture series).
She is without a doubt still the best dancer in the company. Music: Vivaldi
Many of you have already seen “SCHWANENSEE”, here an excerpt from the second act with the Pas-de-Deux, danced by the first soloists Iana Salenko and Marian Walter. Music: Tchaikovsky (see the photos in our picture series).
The dancer Dinu Tamazlacaru then invites us to France with “LES BOURGEOIS” in a humorous choreography by Ben van Cauwenbergh and the music by Jacques Brel “Quinze ans d’ armor ”. Sure, what else should our neighboring country be about …(see the photos in our picture series).
The first solo dancer Yolanda Correra shows us in “DU BIST DIE RUH” in a choreography by Andreas Heise, classical and modern dance elements to the music by Franz Schubert played live on stage. With Arne Christian Pelz with his violoncello and Alina Pronina at the piano, (see the photos in our picture series).
Another Pas-de-Deux show us the two principal dancers Elisa Carrillo Cabrera and Mikhail Kaniskin in „KAZIMIR’S COLORS by Mauro Biganzetti with the music of Shostakovich. Very classic and very boring, the poorest part of the evening (see the photos in our picture series).

The second highlight of the evening is now coming:
The first solo dancer Ksenia Ovsyanick (see video “From Berlin with love”) shows “M – DAO” by choreographer Yabin Wang with music by Jocelyn Pook.
Ksenia dances here in the style of Modern Dance in the tradition of Martha Graham or Isadora Duncun. With a long, wide skirt that reaches to the ankles, the dancer floats and swings across the stage. So great! (see the photos in our picture series).

Martha Graham (1894 – 1991), Begründerin des MODERN DANCE, photo: anonymous

The end is formed by four dancers, Cameron Hunter, Konstantin Lorenz, Danil Simkin and again Dinu Tamazlacaru (see above “Les Bourgeois”) with “VARIATION FOR FOUR” by choreographer Anton Dolin (as well as from the first piece “Pas de Quatre”).
More classic than modern, with the music by Marguerite Keogh, it forms a cheerful end to the evening (see the photos in our picture series).
After the last piece, the screen is lowered again and another video shows us the work outs and training of the dancers in the ballet studios.
An evening full of top performances and great choreographies shows how wonderful the art of ballet can be and how important the State Ballet is for the culture in Berlin.
