The GOLDEN GLOBES and the road to the OSCARS

Ein rauschendes Fest zu Beginn der Award-Season
In den USA ist der Beginn eines Jahres immer geprägt vom Beginn der sogenannten Award Season – die Preisverleihungen der wichtigsten Auszeichnungen im Film-Business.
Mit glanzvollen Roten Teppichen und rauschenden Festen.
Das Jahr beginnt zunächst traditionell mit dem GOLDEN GLOBE, bei der die Auslandspresse die besten Filme des vergangenen Jahres kürt.
Dann kommen noch der CRITICS CHOICE MOVIE AWARD (15.1.2024), der SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD (24.2.2024) und das SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL (18. – 28.1.2024).
Der Fernsehpreis EMMY wird dieses Jahr ausnahmsweise auch im Januar vergeben.
Im Bereich Musik die GRAMMY AWARDS (am 2. Februar) und die AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS (am 7. April).
Den Abschluss bilden die OSCARS (Academy Awards), welche dieses Jahr am 10. April im Dolby Theater in Los Angeles stattfinden werden.
Die Nominierungen für den OSCAR werden übrigens am 23. Januar bekannt gegeben.
Die Golden Globes
In diesem Jahr ging ein völlig runderneuertes GOLDEN GLOBE an den Start.
Nachdem sich im Jahre 2021 die Stimmen gemehrt hatten, dass die Auswahl der Filme nicht mit rechten Dingen zuging und nicht genügend weibliche, farbige und andere ethnische Schauspieler und Schauspielerinnen ausgewählt wurden, boykottierten die Fernsehanstalten 2022 die Übertragung, so dass die 79. Ausgabe der GOLDEN GLOBES als reine private Veranstaltung mit nur wenigen Gästen über die Bühne gehen musste.
Im Juli 2022 kaufte die Dick Clark Production alle Rechte von der Hollywood Foreign Press Association, um mit einem völlig neuen Konzept die Preisverleihung der GOLDEN GLOBES im neuen Glanz durchführen zu können.
Jetzt wählen 310 internationale Filmjournalisten aus 76 Ländern die besten Filme eines Jahres aus.
Mit Noten von 1 bis 5 werden in jeder Kategorie fünf Filme, Regisseure, Schauspieler, Drehbuchautoren, Filmkomponisten et.c. ausgewählt.
Wer die meisten Bestnoten hat, gewinnt.
So kam es, dass am 7. Januar 2024 im Beverly Hilton Hotel wieder alle Stars gekommen waren, die Hollywood so auffahren kann:
Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt und Regisseur Quentin Tarantion („Once upon a time in Hollywopod”) fanden sich an einem Tisch wieder und KYLIE JENNER aus dem Jenner-Clan (Kendall Jenner, Kim, Chloé und Caitline Kardashian) knutschte ganz ungeniert mit Film-Beau TIMOTHÉE CHALAMART.
Alle aufzuzählen würde hier den Rahmen sprengen.
Am besten Ihr schaut mal auf den Instagram Account der Golden Globes.
Da seht Ihr wer mit wem und in welchem Outfit gekommen ist.
Wenn am Abend des 23. Januar 2024 die Nominierungen für die OSCARS vorgestellt werden, rechnet man überwiegend mit denselben Filmen/Schauspielern/Regisseuren, die schon bei den GOLDEN GLOBES nominiert wurden.
Mit 8 Nominierungen war bei den GOLDEN GLOBES der Film „Oppenheimer“ (hier meine Kritik) der erfolgreichste, fünf hat er gewonnen (siehe unten).

Bei den GOLDEN GLOBES gibt es aber nur 27, bei den OSACARS sogar 50 Kategorien (weshalb der Abend der OSCARS auch mit ca. 5 Stunden immer viel zu lang ausfällt).
Besonders freue ich mich über den GOLDEN GLOBE für LILY GLADSTONE in „Killers oft he Flower Moon“ (hier meine Kritik) als beste Schauspielerin in einem Drama, die als erste indigene Person jetzt diese Auszeichnung bekam. Sie ist aber auch ganz wunderbar, wie ich in meiner Rezension festgestellte.

Der Film „BARBIE“ (hier meine Kritik) hatte zwar neun Nominierungen erhalten, aber letztlich nur zwei GOLDEN GLOBES erhalten. Davon einer, der extra eingeführt wurde, und zwar den für den besten „Blockbuster“ eines Jahres mit mehr als 150 Millionen Dollar Einnahmen. In Konkurrenz stand der neue „Top Gun“, „Spider-Man“, „Super Mario – der Film“, „Gardians oft he Galaxy 3“ und „Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour“.

Und ein fettes Bravo für „Anatomie eines Falls“ (hier meine Kritik) von JUSTINE TIET (Goldene Palme in Cannes), die als französische Regisseurin und Autorin einen GOLDEN GLOBE sowohl für das beste ausländische Drama, als auch für das beste Drehbuch bekam.

The GOLDEN GLOBES and the road to the OSCARS

A glamorous celebration at the start of the awards season
In the USA, the beginning of a year always means the beginning of the so-called Awards Season – the award ceremonies of the most important awards in the movie business.
With glamorous red carpets and glamorous parties.
The year traditionally begins with the GOLDEN GLOBE, where the foreign press chooses the best movies of the past year.
Then come the CRITICS CHOICE MOVIE AWARD (January 15, 2024), then the SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARD (February 24, 2024) and the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL (January 18 – 28, 2024).
And in music, the 2024 GRAMMY AWARDS (on February 2) and the AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS (on April 7, 2024).
The finale are the OSCARS (Academy Awards), which will be presented this year on April 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
By the way, the nominations for the OSCAR will be announced on January 23rd.
The Golden Globes
This year a completely renovated GOLDEN GLOBE was launched.
After there were increasing voices in 2021 that the selection of movies was not done properly and that not enough female, colored and other ethnic actors and actresses were selected, the television companies boycotted the broadcast in 2022, so that the 79th edition of the GOLDEN GLOBES had to take place as a purely private event with only a few guests.
In July 2022, Dick Clark Production purchased all rights from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in order to be able to hold the GOLDEN GLOBES awards ceremony in a new splendor with a completely new concept.
Now 310 international film journalists from 76 countries are selecting the best films of the year.
Five films, directors, actors, screenwriters, film composers, etc. are awarded in each category with grades from 1 to 5. selected.
Whoever has the most top marks wins.
So it happened that on January 7th, 2024, all the stars that Hollywood can present came to the Beverly Hilton Hotel:
Leonardo Di Caprio, Brad Pitt and director Quentin Tarantion (“Once upon a time in Hollywopod”) found themselves at a table and KYLIE JENNER from the Jenner clan (Kendall Jenner, Kim, Chloé and Caitline Kardashian) unabashedly made out with the film -Beau TIMOTHÉE CHALAMART.

There you can see who came with whom and in what outfit.
When the nominations for the OSCARS are presented on the evening of January 23, 2024, they are largely expected to feature the same films/actors/directors that have already been nominated for the GOLDEN GLOBES.
The film “Oppenheimer” (here my critics) was the most successful at the GOLDEN GLOBES with 5 nominations and won four (see below).

However, there are only 27 categories in the GOLDEN GLOBES, and 50 categories in the OSACARS (which is why the OSCARS evening is always far too long at around 5 hours).
I am particularly pleased about the GOLDEN GLOBE for LILY GLADSTONE in “Killers of the Flower Moon” (here my critics) as best actress in a drama, who was the first indigenous person to receive this award. She plays quite wonderful, as I stated in my review.

A new award has been introduced specifically for the film “BARBIE” (here my critics), namely for the best “blockbuster” of a year with revenues of more than 150 million dollars. In competition were the new “Top Gun”, “Spider-Man”, “Super Mario – the Movie”, “Gardians of the Galaxy 3” and “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”.
